I saw a thread a while back about these. Is Opal the only one for counter top. looking for soft nugget ice.

hoshi makes a countertop unit. its very nice, makes sonic ice, and very expensive

Just bought an Opal a month ago. Makes great ice and app is easy to make schedules. Cant exactly speak to its longevity yet.

Not sure what brand we have but I’ll say unless we use distilled water, it makes awful noises. Love having it though.

Bought a GE opal 2.0 for Christmas. Love it. Makes plenty of ice for the 4 of us. Descaled and cleaned it once so far. Not bad to do.

For a counter top, using distilled water is the way to go.

Follow up go the opal 2 with the side tank. so awesome, but damn it runs through the water. every time I close it making ice
