So i bought a loaf of gravel at a benefit auction and the guy delivered it and it's a heavy clay mid size rock mix. Not what i would call gravel but none the less I've got it. So I used the tractor and spread it all out and smoothed it as much as i could. If i rent a vibrating plate tamp would that work to compact it enough or should i rent the trench roller?

If it’s what I’m thinking, it’s a really good base for more gravel.

I had a big load of it delivered to my farm last year. Put it out with tractor and it was fine to use my tractor running over it to set it in place.

Not sure I’ll do it this year or the next but will have some limestone delivered to go over the rocks and clay

It makes a great base for limestone but sucks by itself.

I have a 500 ft driveway and got some “gravel” which I meant limestone but they brought clay gravel. I spread and packed the shite out of it and it would get hard when dry but turned to mud in the rain. I would need to work it periodically due to pot holes.

I capped it with limestone 5 years ago and haven’t touched my driveway since.

Oh. I had contacts for limestone in the Baton Rouge area. Just research guys that haul dirt and sand with dump trucks. They will know where a limestone yard is
