Got a lawn that is a mix of Bermuda and St aug. It is patchy as hell if not completely burnt out and i pretty much stopped watering it a month or two ago.

I have no idea what i am doing. Never had to deal with this. What steps should i be taking

Mechanically aerating can do wonders

We're in the same boat Dire. It sucks.

My backyard is a mess right now. Dogs sliding to catch balls and de-rooting the St. Aug Not sure what to do either.

Kiss your St Aug goodbye. The bermuda will come back once it starts getting water again. Do you know the variety of bermuda you have?

Arden-15 is close to Tifway, but can be purchased as seed. Let it compete with the native, until the Arden chokes it out.

Arden is discontinued.

Are there any decent varieties of bermuda that can be seeded? Or do the better varieties all need to be sodded/plugged?

I have common bermuda growing in my yard right now, but I'd prefer something more dense

Any bermuda that seeds is a variety of common. Any bermuda that is sterile is a hybrid. That being said Yukon is a great common bermuda.

One look at the sprigging lawn journals on The Lawn Forum and you’ll hardly be able to wait for spring!

If I have half Bermuda, half centipede and half st Aug would it be worth aerating and putting down some centipede seed or is that a waste?

Growing Centipede from seed is hard

not even worth it this time of year

Also you need to spend on high quality centipede seed,

ive laid some and what came up looks more like common Bermuda than centipede

Later on this summer i bought Santee Centipede seed and its night and day.

Just wait till may of next year and seed and put down plugs

I won't buy another seed type for this lawn

in the areas i had just dead dried out grass. I over seeded and its looking great. You can see the green standing out in dead patches.

In the total dead spots its been growing except one spot on a hill under a tree. It germinated quick and started growing full. I came back from a 2 week work trip and we didn't have any rain. Its hurtling but should bounce back.

It should look great next summer and ill buy a like 6 pounds to fill in the waste land of nothing around my trees in the front yard. All the sod the builder put down has basically died after 3 years. Maybe i can talk my neighbor going 1/2 on the 25 pound bag.

I’m surprised my lawn held up as well as it did with no rain for over a month

Then we got a month’s worth during this last tropical storm but it did nothing

Maybe that's his version of "overseeding".

Would you mind posting a general procedure for that? I have the same problem and would really like to try to see a decent lawn next summer. I've had the same mix for about 10 years and always had a healthy green lawn; very few weeds but manageable. This year, the only green things in my yard were weeds.
