Compost for Topdressing Lawn - BR

Anyone have experience with a quality compost I can use for Topdressing in the Baton Rouge area?
Anything in bulk or bag will work. It seems like the Black Cow compost has bark/lumps in it that wouldn't be ideal for Topdressing. Thoughts?

Ha, good luck...
I've commented several times that there is no company in south Louisiana that really gives a shite about quality dirt, compost, sand, soil, etc.
In places like Texas and Georgia they'll pre mix a beautiful 70/30 ratio or whatever you want. You'll pay for it, but at least its available.
Here, Cleggs recommends dumping river shite, excuse me, silt, into your lawn.
This is what we need.

Also, isn't river silt completely different than compost?

Straight sand or sand with a compost mix is best.
And no, river silt is definitely not compost.
River silt is a great consistency for leveling, but as we know, it is often full of weeds (torpedo) and the occasional beer can.
I don't know why Clegg's is so insistent on the stuff. Money, I guess.

I usually pick up about 9 bags of sand and 3 of compost/manure.
This is not the most economical option unfortunately.

Call around to some of your local dirt guys and see what they've got.
The guy I use on the northshore has some beautiful sandy/dirt mix that spreads great but also lets stuff grow in it. Not cheap, but I like it.

If you are buying compost from a nursery you better sift it to get clumps out. last year I top dressed with peat and sand and sifted 2 bags of peat to remove big chinks, but I use a reel mower i have Bernuda get organic matter in your soil, you can use soil amendments I use carbon pro G from site one I use both pellet and liquid form

Which bags of compost are you picking up?
Since my lawn is far from perfect and I’m still leveling instead of top dressing the bit of mulch doesn’t bother me.
It’ll break down over time if it doesn’t wash away.

I think Bofingers tree service in Baton Rouge is actually producing some with the input of a number of various experts of different skill sets. You may want to give them a call to see what they have. I’m sure it would be bull and not in bags

I talked to Manco services out of Folsom and they didn't speak too highly of it. They said it had weeds growing in it, which means it's probably not properly composted.
I also talked with Schmelly's Dirt Farm on the Southshore. I think this is legit compost, but I've never made the drive down there to get some.
