I have no doubt I deal with this every winter. It's the same thing every year. No energy, weight gain, sluggish all the time. I don't know what the answer is to snap out of it.

That's exactly the symptoms that I have. Plus I'm agitated as hell all of the time.

When winter hits that cloudy/rain stretch, I'm a miserable fricker.
I just try to eat as clean as possible and workout when I get bored or feel trapped inside.

Take vitamin d3 and magnesium supplements.

I met a guy from Greece in a bar in Helsinki who was living there working for Erickson. I asked him how he dealt with the cold, dark Winters and he said once he started using light therapy the winters immediately got better.

I just embrace it. Eat whatever i want, focus on diet after holidays

It's pretty typical. I love the cold weather but people definitely get dragged down, and diets suffer. From end of October through December my goal is to just gain as little weight as possible. Football, holidays, lack of motivation.. it all adds up to weight gain if you don't monitor your food intake.
Most people mostly maintain their weight just of the year and gain weight through the final 2 months of the year.

Sunshine! We moved away from the South over 20 yr ago where the winters had that steel gray overcast for much of the winter. We're in the Rockies where (chamber of commerce claims) 300+ days of sunshine/yr .. probably not that much but close to it. If a winter storm hangs around longer than a couple days or I'm traveling for work back East where it's socked in ... yeah it comes back hard. Get back in the sunlight, even if it's cold, and things improve greatly.
OK so maybe you can't move to fix this, but look at the color temperature of the light bulbs in your home and office. Find some bulbs that mimic the color temperature of daylight -- bet it helps.

My general rule is to eat cleanish, but don't really sweat things until after Mardi Gras. There's just too much going on during the holidays to really stress over diet.
As far as the disorder goes, it sucks. It hits me once daylight savings ends. Getting dark at 5pm? frick that.
Try to stay active. Buy a jumprope and work on that. Do the 10k pushup challenge. Anything to keep you active while you feel like you're cooped up inside.

I used to get this every year but the last 2-3 years it seems to have gone away. The only thing I can come up with is my doctor suggested I started taking vitamin D3 a couple years ago for general health reasons. Since then I haven't noticed that depressed feeling during the winter. Seems to make sense though. We get vitamin D from being in the sun so shorter days means less of it. How vitamin D and depression correlate is beyond me and this is all anecdotal but I figured I'd mention it.

People tell me I'm weird all the time because I love dark overcast days. My exercises do suffer in the month of December and sometimes follows into January, but a big reason is because hunting season is heating up pretty good by December and I just lose focus on exercise. I don't know why, dark overcast days have a calming effect on me no matter what time of year it is.

You have to counterpunch, it can be a combination of things. Nashville winters are dreadful, just cold enough not to snow. Gray and raining half the time.
Years ago I bought a sauna and it’s been worth every dime. I bike when it’s decent enough and run when it’s not.
Join a gym if you don’t have equipment at home, although this time of year I’d recommend scoping out when the lighter times are so you can do the stuff you want. If it means hitting it early then adjust your schedule to MAKE it work.
And seek physicality. The winter body/mindset of s.a.d. wants to avoid it. Stretch first thing when you wake up, keeping flexibility throughout the day improves circulation and it won’t feel like climbing a mountain when you go to work out.
S.a.d. attacks the mind, body and spirit. All these need to be fortified so you can fight the hell back.
Good luck and keep swinging.

Anyone with a predisposition to depression will get this.

Anyone feel like shite? Last few days have been miserable. I can't leave my job. Let me add I am a depressive type.

This gray, cold, wet, dreary weather sucks in south MS, but exercise outside seems to help once I drag myself out of bed or away from the desk.

Due to "life circumstances" I've been unable to ski this season, and due to piriformis syndrome I haven't quite gotten under control, I haven't been able to run. I'm going freaking NUTS.
My advice is exercise more. If you're maxed out then do more shite outdoors even if weather is blah.
