Our daughter, no pics, has started working out at home regularly. She hasnt done really any weight lifting yet, maybe a little at school. She's pretty lean. Probably 5'5 100 pounds if I had to guess.
She has a few of the really light womens dumbells, like the colorful ones that go up to 4 pounds or something.
Was thinking about getting her either a curl bar and maybe a bench bar for doing some squats, etc.
Would yall go straight to an olympic size, or think she might get more use out of a cheaper set with more weights, etc.
Not looking to spend a ton, 200 dollars or so range.
I think it's something she is going to be interested in doing forever, so that's why I was thinking go ahead and get an olympic size.

At her age the community aspect of working out is more important than her doing the lifts by herself. Get her into a CrossFit gym or an oly gym. Have her watch Mattie Rogers YouTube videos for inspiration.

Bruh... you know it will happen. I'll let her make that choice on her own when shes older.
Besides, I already mentioned the weights to her and that's what she wants.

I'd probably start with a standard Olympic bar before getting into curl bars and what not.
What are her goals? Sports, powerlifting or general fitness?

General fitness, was thinking about maybe a 5 foot olympic bar and a few weights for it.
Something she can do squats curls, etc with.
Dont really have a good spot for a bench, she works out in our garage or outside mostly now.

This says way more about you than anyone else

Sorry, I'm not comfortable signing my 15 year old daughter up to go work out in a adult gym alone. If we would be with her, then that's another story.

You aren’t getting much in terms of free weights for $200.
But you say she is working out at home? What exactly is she doing? Can piece together a few things for your budget

Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are your friends here. We've bought so much second hand items in the past month we're able to put together a gym at our office.

She's come up with some routine on her own. Probably got it off youtube.
Crunches, lunges, leg lifts, pushups, etc. I havent really watched it all. But shes been doing it regularly on her own for about 8 months now I'd guess.

Yeah, was thinking mainly just a bar. Then if she continued to use it regularly we could add more weights. That's why I was thinking olympic size.

Maybe ask 777 for some of the bodyweight Greyskull stuff he has.
For a beginner, she can make good gains from bodyweight alone, and Greyskull is a solid linear template. A linear program is 100% what she should use.
For a low cost additive, look at rings or a suspension trainer like TRX. To really get a barbell setup that will help her will run you more than $200.
Of course, gold standard is build a barbell based home gym for the whole family, but I'm just part of the home gym cult.

I'd look at the TRX option and get a good solid pull-up bar apparatus if you do not currently have one. A pull-up bar would give you/ her options for pullups, leg raises, etc and a good anchor point for trx and resistance band exercises

Yeah, had a pull up type bar thing in mind as well. That might be a good option and very low cost
And maybe its just me but the trx thing seems a little over complicated for her right now.
You have to understand... she just tried baking banana bread without flour last year, lol.

Farmers walk handles. Titan makes a set of compact ones for a little over $50. No learning curve and you won't find a better full body workout.

Trx is not over complicated, but just get her a nice ceiling mounted pull up bar and a set of rings.
Sending her to a good CrossFit gym would be best and if she is in high school it really is age appropriate, but you are the father and know your kids best. If you don't want to do, frick what anyone else says(even though you are being a little insecure and weird about it) as nobody else's, including mine, me dick.
Get her the rings and pullups bar. If you want to do more, get a kettlebell once they come in stock.
Right now you aren't going to find much of anything in your price range or even in stock right now. Without mats or bumpers or a squat rack she is going to be very limited on what she can do with a barbell anyways. You are not going to find anything on the used market that isn't crazy overpriced.
Get her doing the reddit recommend routine. There is any called bodyweight fitness pro that walks you right thru the program, it would be what I recommend. From there she can start bodyweight push/pull/legs routine.
Email me at lsu777td at gmail and I'll send you a link to my Google drive bodyweight folder that has tons of programs and videos to help her. Biggest thing though is get good as hell at pullups, ring pushups, all kinds of pushup variations, ring rows, lunges, split squats, glute bridges, leg lifts etc.
