Co-worker is older and she was on a 1,200-1,500 cal diet per day and wasn't losing weight after 8 weeks of this plus working out.

Obviously, I think she wasn't counting calories very well if she didn't lose anything, and she mentioned eating red beans a rice at Copelands a few weeks ago before starting this ww thing, so I think she wasn't being honest with herself. WW basically starves you, so it's not rocket science that you will lose weight, but you will lose a shitload of muscle in the process.

I had one of those breakfast cups today: eggs, bacon and cheese. Just fat and protein with zero carbs, and the WW app said it would be 10 of her 30 points worth of her daily requirement and it was only 310 calories with 28 grams of protein and 23 grams of fat.

..and she said she went to bed starving last night, leaving 3 points unused. Can you say metabolism shutting down completely?

I agree, it seems like a complete sham to me. I don't know if she would be willing to listen, but I would suggest looking into the Wild Diet by Abel James. This is simply a paleo diet, but I thought his book was great for beginners and is actually what first turned me on to eating this way. If she needs an overview and has Hulu, tell her to search for My Diet is Better than Yours from 2016. Any Paleo diet would obviously work, but sometimes it's helpful to have it all laid out for you.

People want easy. She isn't changing it.

She will probably lose equal weight in muscle/fat and look and feel worse after she does it.

Weight watchers sucks cause it doesn't worry one bit about macros and like you said you losebas much muscle as you do fat.

Also sucks because of the stupid point system. It doesn't teach people to count calories or proper macros. Hate WW

I lost 65 pounds in a year just buying fruits instead of snacks at the grocery store, not buying soda, and eating to satisfaction instead of full. Had a rule, one big meal a day. didnt count shite didnt really exercise directly. Also inadvertantly did some IF by skipping meals at work staying busy.

Still went out to eat with people still ate shitty fast food 1 or 2 times a week.

The biggest problem i see with ppl losing weight is they arent honest with themselves or fail to realize just how many garbage calories are in a medium fry. Even when using a calorie tracking app ive seen coworkers skip an entry.

That sucks. I wish there was a push that it is the quality of what we eat, not the quantity.

Wife did weight watchers and lost 30ish pounds in a few months. It worked great for her.

I hate it, but my sister, who has struggled mightily with weight the past few years is doing it right now and is having tremendous success.

So while it might not be ideal for hardcore people, it certainly can and will work for people will little knowledge of health and fitness.

I get the premise of it as I track macros for my diet. Weight watchers just tries to simplify it. But with that point system, it doesn't really teach you anything. That's why people fall off the rails.

I am with you. On February 01 , I started eating fruits like pineapple, pears, apples, blueberries, mushrooms and a lot of grilled chicken salads. Ate broccoli and spinach. I went from 225 lbs down to 200 lbs. I do about 2 1/2 hours if treadmill walking per week but I eat when I am hungry only. I don't try counting points or calories. I just try eating foods that are grown naturally. My goal is 170 lbs ( 5"7). Started lifting weights at Anytime Fitness. I'll turn 50 years old in two months.

The point system is why I dislike it. Also studies show that exercising tends to make people stick to diets better and there is no exercise portion or encouragement.

I've wondered this before and done some reading.

It's just counting calories/caloric restriction. It has a points system that makes it easier for people to actually keep up with what they eat, which is difficult for a lot of people.

It's not a bs system or a scam. They provide recipes, meal plans and other nutritional information. They also help people associate certain foods with "points" so better decisions can be made. Seems like it would be good for someone who is trying to learn how to eat well and learn their body. If you follow their plans, you should lose weight... because caloric surplus/restriction is pretty basic science.

I put zero value on personal stories of weight loss difficulties. People are rarely honest (or even know) how much they eat in a day. Each day is filled with "small cheats" that many never account for.

any diet based on counting calories and especially having to pay for them (essentially) is destined to fail eventually.

until we stop the war on fat, people are going to remain hungry and/or fat.

Yea I find it weird. I've never done it, but it just seems very odd and not what people really need.

Makes sense. If I wasn't lifting, it would be hard to stick to something.

I suspect this is an issue for most that have issues losing weight. Tracking EVERYTHING you eat is so important for starting any kind of plan.

The wife and I started doing Keto a few months ago. We were super strict about tracking every last calorie for probably the first 8 weeks or so, until we were comfortable knowing approximately what we could eat in a day and still fit the macros. That was almost 3 months ago, and I'm down about 15% of my start weight. I hit the scale everyday to make sure I'm not doing anything crazy bad with my diet, and pay more attention to what I eat if I have a big fluctuation. At this point, my lifestyle has changed and I don't find it hard to keep up.

But I couldn't get there without the strict tracking in the beginning.

She needs to stay disciplined and not eat carbs. Eat as much fat and protein as she wants, but no carbs. Her body is likely saturated in glucose right now and the working out she is doing is only burning off what she is taking in. She needs to go a solid 5 days without and carbs and just walk for an hour a day. She will start burning fat like crazy.

This isn't real.

Inaccurate calorie counting if that's eating in a deficit.

I think some people like WW for the meetings.

People eat food at restaurants before going on diets?

She was supposedly counting calories and working out the previous 8 weeks before changing to WW.

Copeland's Red Beans and Rice for lunch and squeezing it into her 1200-1500 limit? I think not.
