Elbow injury experiences-updated

I cannot seem to do any pushing movements without a lot of left elbow pain.
In a nutshell, I back off as doctor thought it was equivalent to golfer's elbow. Saturday I did plenty of warm up to see how much it would help. I did some PT stretching and so forth followed by...
Bench press:
2 sets of 20 with just the bar (no pain or discomfort).
2 sets of 15 with 135 pounds (still good).
Went up to 185 pounds and by 5th rep I heard something pop in my elbow followed by extreme pain.
I racked the weight and could not even do a push up so I went home and iced it.
Yesterday and today I have swelling, especially around the point of the elbow (bursa sack?). My entire elbow joint hurts now. It even hurts to do daily tasks.
I'm 50 years old and I'm in very good shape. I usually do twice the amount of weight for 4-6 reps (not so subtle brag).
Have MRI scheduled for Wednesday. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated. Tear?
UPDATE: Update for those interested. I had surgery Wednesday morning. Doc reattached the tricep tendon. The medial epicondylitis was also torn significantly. Rather than repairing the medial tendons surgically they injected platelet rich plasma (from my own blood).
Estimated rehab time is 9 weeks total. Being stuck at home sucks.

I'm dealing with a pretty bad case of tennis elbow right now. My second in the past three years, but this one is worse.

Did the MD say stay off or the PT?
I found that if I have elbow or joint problems, it's usually caused by a muscular tightness or imbalance.

They both just told me to go light. Lol. I've been doing all the PT to stretch out my flexors.

The only way to heal severe golfer elbow is complete rest. I'm on my 3rd month off from upper body after trying to lift through it for 7 months. It sucks but it will never go away

Update:
Had an MRI today. Will not get results until Monday when I see my doc.

I've tried everything but there's no fixing this without surgery.
I have torn my tricep tendon almost completely. It is barely hanging on at the elbow and I have about a 70% tear in my medial tendon as well. Looks like I'll be in for several months of recovery.

Good luck! Glad they didn't cut off your arm.
