Pretty sure everyone knew he was on the juice in college and pros. Look at his transformation at USC.

Right. It does make you think though if he had the perfect diet and didn’t drink, where would that put him?

He would look better shirtless and be no better on the field.
He might even be worse, considering he would lose weight that protects him and helps his ability to generate force.

I don’t believe that. With the correct diet he could maintain weight just not as visceral fat. And removing that would help. It would be a small percentage, but every minimal percentage gain matters at that level. Beer and shite food affects the mind and body. Eliminating it allows for a gain.

I don’t not beleive Mahomes currently has the ideal body for his competitive peak

I'm not commenting on his diet because I don't know. You say every minimal percentage gain matters at that level. Percentage gain of what exactly that would definitively make him a better qb?

Regardless, you are speaking from a partial physical view of his upper body, not considering other aspects such as throwing mechanics, flexibility, mobility, reaction time, etc. All of those matter more than abs for an NFL qb.

I’m not saying he needs ripped abs. But he clearly has a poor diet. And that effects sleep, mood, and with the amount of fat he is carrying it also will hamper speed and other things

But honestly I don’t think any athlete ever truly gets to their absolute peak. Being human makes it almost impossible. Maybe someone like lance Armstrong did.

Maybe having a beer or two or three or however many is a necessary part of his process. Maybe he's created an internal reward system that links Lil Debbies to his study of game film? Maybe if he were obsessing about the marginal gains associated with body type, he would miss out on more maximal gains he's making elsewhere.

In all seriousness, I agree with you for the most part, but I also do think that it's oversimplified to say, "If he were doing X, he would be a better player." Because accomplishing X might take away from. Y, which might then have a negative performance effect.

Jason kelce. He looks like an average overweight dude. He is an incredibly explosive athlete.

To be fair, he maintains that weight because he’s a center. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if he loses a lot of weight soon. That happens a lot with OL. Their knees are tired of the weight.

I could see Kelce dropping weight big time in the first year to year and a half post retirement. He'll probably transition so fast his head will permanently look out of place on his body.

Following up to say I do generally agree with your post. I've also been dunked on by a 6 foot nothing dude with a beer belly and cankles in a pick up game and understand that athletic ability and skill isn't always affected by fitness level.
