Just got word that I will be in Sandestin for work convention in mid June. There is a golf tournament one day so I obviously said yes when HR asked if I wanted to play. Not even sure what course but I’m assuming it will be decent and my round is paid for so why not. No real questions, I just wanted to tell someone else I’m going to start playing golf again because my wife won’t listen lol. Masters week gets me fired up every year.

I guess I do have a question. Best place to get clubs regripped around lafayette. And any grip suggestions? Have golf pride mcc swing grips right now. They are just getting slick.

My go-to replacement grip has been Golf Pride Tour Wrap

I like the look of them. They hold up pretty good?

I know not everyone is the same but I’ve always liked full chorded grips. Hands can get sweaty for me so it helps.

They usually put those corporate convention scrambles on their older course. Forget the name of it - The Links maybe? It’s probably the worst of the courses there, but still fine for a scramble. It’s the course that runs along 98 if you’re familiar with that area. Typical resort course with ample fairways and large greens.

I have GP Tour Velvets. But I recently got Utility iron with Lamkin crossline 360 and am contemplating changing them all to that...

The Links

Just looked at the scorecard with hole layout. Good lord I’ll need to spend some time on the range or bring 2 dozen balls with me.

it’s really not hard, but does put a premium on control off the tee. The fairways are wider than the card shows. It’s a really short course, so hitting 3w is an option everywhere

I went to the range this afternoon and hit. I love my three wood and if I took my driver out of the bag, I’d probably take 4-5 strokes off of my round immediately. But I hate being outdriven off the tee. One of these days I may just accept it and use 3 wood only to tee it up.

If the 3w is that good and driver is that bad, you really need to look at different driver shafts.

I check my ego at the door and hit a 2 or 3 iron off most tees. Just have no confidence with my driver or 3 wood and I don’t play enough to gain that confidence back. It helps I can hit my 2 iron nearly 250 yards and my 3 iron around 240. Leaves me with a lot of longer approach shots, but I’m pretty solid with my mid irons.

My favorite is hitting my 2 iron past the guy that just spent $500 on the hottest new driver on the market.

I could probably use a new driver but just don’t play enough right now to justify spending the money on it. Could probably use a new 3w too. It’s an old Cleveland launcher 13 degree I’ve had for as long as I can remember, but I hit it straight.

The best 3w I ever had was a crappy Wilson Staff version from like 2006 or something. I broke it last year and have yet to find one I like (that I can afford) since.

It’s really easy to change grips and only takes about 30 minutes start to finish. Buy a vice (you can get one cheap at a pawn shop or EBay) and a grip kit (Ebat for less than $15). Buy some Z Cords off EBay. Save about $50 and always be able to change your own grips going forward.

There's a lot of water on the Links course, I know this from experience. . I think it also might have the most holes along the bay of all the courses in the area (Haven't played Burnt Pine, so don't know the layout).

I hit the largest slice at Links ever witnessed by course staff.

#1 - sliced it up over the water - there was dry land on the other side - on in 4 then 1 putt.

I won that junior tournament

Just played. Luckily only lost two balls and I am not that good, but had a good day. The dude I was playing with probably lost 30 balls.

All the construction is done on the bay side. It is a really scenic course.
