Do public courses need to establish internal OB to avoid this issue?

I have played from the wrong fairway over the years, but not on purpose. It’s a safety issue with full courses.

It’s one thing for the best players in the world to play down the wrong fairway for position, but I’m not sure this needs to be imitated on a wide scale by average Joe’s playing in a Saturday game.

I'm not sure many amateurs and weekend golfers do that very often. I've never played with someone who did this on purpose.

Internal OB where there isn't any type of housing involved sucks arse. Let's not make it worse

I agree, but I also don’t think people should purposely aim to other fairway on a crowded course.

At tournaments fans know they may get hit, but if I’m standing near 15th fairway, I don’t expect to get hit by guys teeing off on 18.

It’s not a public course but if you’re approach into 10 green at BRCC isn’t from 18 fairway, you’re a braver man than I lol

It’s not an issue at my club.

It’s a neighborhood course so just a bunch of OB if you spray it,

I actually prefer park style tracts, so I can be inbounds on a wide shot. I never thought about aiming in the other fairway.

I guess it’s ok, but I’d hate to bean anybody a fairway over.

First thing I thought of when I opened this thread. Avoid 1+ stroke hazards at all costs is my MO.

I’ll play to 2 fairway from 8 tee at Webb, and make no apologies for it.

I do the same. That's the only way to play the hole. Take the road out of play. Take the hunker out of play. Still have a wedge into the green that now opens up to you.

Did it yesterday. lol Webb in rough shape since they can't cut the grass.

That looks smart, but if it’s crowded it might also create an element of danger to the other group.

I do see the logic, but please yell, “fore” before you hit.

I play down #7 when teeing off on #11 at oakbourne.

I've always found that the angle to the right of 9 brings in too much tree trouble unless you bail way right.

What’s your typical strategy on that hole when you do that? I’ve never even thought to do that, but then again, I’m a complete hack.

It opens the green up on the approach.

I see where you’re going with that. It makes sense. I don’t have the confidence in my game to be playing over the trees like that. With my skill, I’d hit it right in the heart of the trees.

Number 6 at the Island its very easy to play the 1 fairway. I always lineup to cut the corner but I always end up pulling one left or shanking it into 1 which makes it a shorter albeit blind shot. I always thought they should have extended the pond near the 5th green all they way between 1 and 6s fairways and it make both holes much more interesting

Played there yesterday and cut the corner over the bunker on 6. Luckily ended up with no tree trouble and in a reasonable lie, but it probably does make sense to just pipe it even further right.
