Not sure why but I've been interested in trying oversized grips on all my irons. It appears that the general consensus on this is closing the clubface becomes harder with fatter grips. But in speaking with a friend in the business who's advice I trust, he thinks it's a good idea and said the oversize grips will keep me neutral through impact.

Any of you hackers use oversized grips in the past or currently?

I use midsize.

For me it’s about arthritis.

Just easier to hold a bigger grip. My hands and fingers are not as tired after play/practice.

I do have a regular sized grip on my driver. It seems to help me close the face sometimes.

Midsize CP2 wraps gave me fits with closing the club face. I've always played a subtle draw and then I started slicing out of nowhere.

Had to change immediately

MCC +4s on all of my clubs. It’s way more comfortable and my hands don’t hurt after a round.

Played Midsize MCC+4 and liked them but would hold onto the club too tight. Just switched to jumbo grips and don't have that issue. Tension is a killer and you can easily close the club face with larger grips if that is better for your pressure.

Funny you guys mention pain in your hands. Just watched a video by Peter Finch where he said he uses the jumbo max grips for the very same reason.

I don't have any pain in my hands at all. I just want to do it because I like to tinker. I ordered a Super Stroke Cross Comfort in midsize and one in oversize that came in yesterday. Putting them on my 6 and 7i tomorrow and trying them this weekend.

I really hope this is what happens with me. My miss is right because I can't consistently close the clubface so fingers crossed.

Just ordered some wedges with +1/16 Grip size and really enjoy the feel it provides.

I tried midsize grips for about a year and initially had success with them, but at some point, my hands began to change from a strong grip to a weak grip. At that point, I switched back to normal grips and found it much easier to maintain the strong grip I prefer. I find it easier to control the ball with a strong hand grip rather than changing the size of your grips. I can have a hold-off feeling at impact and hit straight/baby fade shots, and to hit a tight draw, I feel like I am releasing the club through impact.

Unused to like oversized grips but I find I tend to hit a slice with them.

Don’t know if it’s in my head or what but I get a slice feeling when I use them

That's what I've heard and read...

quote:

If your golf grip size is too big, you can expect errant golf shots. Wishon explains that an overly large grip adversely changes the angle of your wrist on the downswing- this can prevent you from rotating the clubface quickly enough to square it up to the ball at the point of impact. Fades and slices are a likely consequence.

I still want to try it.

I use Z-Grips, which to me feel slightly undersized compared to something like a Tour Velvet. But they just work for me, in that they help me keep light grip pressure. Oversize grips are a recipe for blocks for me.

I always used standard until I got fitted, now use mid-size. I certainly wouldn't want grips that are too big, but not too small either.
