Any explanation how/why I'm so bad with a driver?

I can hit my irons fine, though not great with the 3. I hit my hybrid 22 degree ~200 yards but only about 30 feet in the air. I don't have a fairway wood because I always associated them with my shitty driving.

Today I bought a used Ping G30 & took it for a short trip to the range. Out of around two dozen shots, 2 were great. Others wouldn't have made it past the ladies tees. Any tips besides getting a lesson? Teeing up a hybrid on Par 5s is getting old.

Right. It's just strange to be able to hit a 5 iron dead straight 180 yards but so, so bad with a driver.

Wondering if there are others like me, guys who have overcome their woods deficiencies.

I have been using Paul Wilson's approach, simply because it is very simple, I have been working on incorporating his swing technique for about 18 months.

I am 68 and I usually out drive most everyone in our group of 7, ages 50 to 70. I have not played in the previous 30yrs.

Whats your miss?

I suck (lately) with driver, my miss is a snap hook. I'm thinking it's partially related to my setup and also some early extension.

Use slow-mo on your phone and film your swing down the line and then face on. Compare that video to some pros on YouTube, you'll be able to target what you're doing wrong much easier.

This is a really helpful video.

Or too far outside, or long, or short or a combination of 2, or none of these. You'd make a great coach.

I would imagine that you are topping it. Stop doing that.

And that's why they call you Coach!

When I'm having driver issues I fix it by going to the range, starting out with my feet together. Tee up a ball and take an easy controlled swing. Keep the feet together. I work that until I'm hitting it down the middle. It won't go very far because of your stance limiting your take away.

Once I'm doing that well I open my stance to where my feet are about a foot apart. Your swing will get a little longer and slightly quicker. Work that until I'm consistently hitting it down the middle.

So it's a gradual exercise until I work it to a normal stance and full swing. If at any point during the drill I start losing it, I'll go back to a narrower stance/shorter swing and work that again until it's good.

That's just what fixes me. I'm not saying it'll help you but it might. I'm also a fan of face tape to see where I'm making contact. Good luck.

Chances are you are trying to hit the driver like you are the irons. It's a longer club which needs more room to operate. it is hard to explain on the computer, but my guess is you need to widen your stance and swing wider (less of a V shape to the golf swing). To hit the driver you need to impact the ball more level to upswing rather than thinking ball-ground contact (like irons).

Quit swinging so damn hard. Never start your swing from a standstill. Start your swing with a tap tap tap and a slight push forward. Start your downswing with your right knee(RH player). Stick your butt out like you about to twerk. Tempo Tempo Tempo

Try the bend, bend, drop method when lining up a drive. Bend your elbows, bend your knees, then drop your hands straight down. You can do that for all of your clubs.

make sure you don't have a to strong of a grip
keep your hands way out from your body, let your core do the rest.

Im a reformed long bomber. Used to think anything under 300 off the tee was a bad shot.

You EVER any good with a driver?

Might be new driver issues. And trying to kill it because it's the big stick.

That + plain statistics. I'd say you are over the top.

What about stance and body position? Maybe tee up a bit higher?

Make sure you're in the "reverse K" position with the driver. It'll encourage an upward strike.
