This is weird... why have I not been interested in the ds3 dlc?!?!? I have loved these games soooooo much, 100%'d ds3.... and for some reason, I watched the first dlc stuff and... just kinda wasn't interested.

Ashes of Ariandel is good, but imo it's the worst dlc they've ever released. I'm simply cautiously optimistic about this; the generic fire demon already bums me out. frick these bosses and their grab attacks.

I think souls has run its course. Bloodborne dlc was legendary compared to ds3's anyway.

Out of all the souls games, this one I played the least. it was a good game but I suppose it was diminishing returns on the formula, perhaps?

That said, I will play this.

The linearity and lack of build options hurts its replayability.

Lorewise, it looks excellent. And the bandai-mod on reddit teased they had heard the feeeback on AoAs lack of bosses.

The handful of areas shown all look pretty diverse, which is exciting. AoA was pretty fun but kinda one-note outside of the corvian village, which you just kinda breeze through.

Hey, I'm in this bitch.

I do believe that DS3 had THREE votes for GB GOTY!

Good, these games need to go away. You can have strong, atmospheric art direction in a game without masochistic game design

The challenge aspect makes these games interesting.

Otherwise it's any other run of the mill fantasy action rpg.

A bad game is a game that's only good because it's "hard." People get off on playing these games. There's a certain sense of self satisfaction that comes with saying, "I beat a souls game." When you look at the actual game mechanics, every Souls game is pretty bad. You could actually make a very entertaining dungeon crawler out of the franchise if it had more loot drops and a better combat system even if it wasn't intentionally designed to murder you every 5 minutes.

I'd make the argument that souls games really aren't that difficult once you learn their mechanics.

I enjoyed the series and found it quite forgiving once you adapted to its rules.

To each his own, I suppose.

ETA: those people who treat this game like it's some sort of religious experience that taught them how to cope with the rigors of life are more annoying than the detractors.

True. Ds3 is my first From game, and while the learning curve was pretty damn steep, i was never that frustrated. The combat is very satisfying. Some of the bosses are cheap, but thats why theres an easy mode: summon some co-op help.

Ill admit, if i wasnt able to summon through some bosses my thoughts on the difficulty would be very different.

But pushing through a stage multiple times until you get it down to a flawless run, which opens up a new stage to explore and push through is the closest gaming has come, imo, to the feeling i got playing games as a kid on NES.
