Paige, you can get a pretty nice 24in monitor in the $150-$200 range.
You can get a nice 27in monitor in the $300 range.
I would look for something with a 1920x1080 resolution.

Yeah I remember you posting that PC. Nvidia GTX 650... You may want to find out how he likes his current monitor and what the resolution is. If you increase the size without increasing resolution, he might be bothered by the pixel size increase. If you increase resolution, he'll start to hate his PC for not being able to handle the extra pixels.

For around 300 bucks the QNIX qx2710 comes pretty highly recommended.

I would recommend that too for this budget, but not for that build. That 650 would have a tough time getting decent framerates at that res
