It's super annoying. I'm going to go from having nothing in a backlog to having at least 4 by September 1st

I don't get it either. I like it though, gives me a chance to catch up.

I'm sure there's some sales figures to explain it, but I don't know either. I assume early year releases help sales in late spring/summer as kids finish the school year and parents buy them rewards. And fall releases take advantage of the holidays.

Dunno, really. Because Sept-Nov is gonna be a beast for me. MGSV, Sword Coast Legends, Fallout4, Super Mario Maker, AC Syndicate and more. Gonna take a while to play through them all.

I think too many publishers are trying to get that big holiday release. Some games would benefit in the summer having the spotlight.

It's the end and beginning of the video game and developer fiscal year I believe. Not only that, but there's no real holiday to have a huge temporary boost in sales for. No point in releasing big games in a time where there's really not as big of a demand for it, as counterintuitive as that sounds.

Maybe the higher sales figures is a product of the publishers' own doing. They all want the holiday release, some get pushed back or delayed to early spring. By then people are done playing their fall/winter games, so the spring games sell well too, and then more publishers go after that spring revenue. All the concentrated game releases in this 6-month window create impressive sales figures on which publishers base their future release schedules.

I think eventually someone is going to realize they can have all of July to themselves. I think that's why arkham delayed 2 weeks to be at the end of June. That and they needed to perfect the PC version.

Publishers always like to plan big releases around big holidays since it is much more convenient for them. Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, Easter, etc. Notice how these holidays generally have the biggest releases surrounding them, which really isn't that surprising.

Summer time, you should be outside enjoying it, then come winter when the weather sucks and you are stuck inside they release the games so you can play them.

The holidays offer a bigger market would be my guess.

And some of the money spent on video games is probably spent on vacations. I doubt anyone would buy their child a video game if they're on vacation (no console/PC available and already spending money).

After seeing prices for places like Universal Studios this year, I can see why I didn't get video games until Christmas as a child.

July/early August really is the most boring time of the year across the board. Video games are no exception.

Dude, it's 97+ degrees outside every day for the next week with all your favorite swamp creatures thriving. And i work outside in cardio like situations sometimes. The summer is the last time of the year I want to be outside. Most days in the winter are in the 50s or 60s which is perfect outside weather.

My family took our NES to the beach with us when I was young.
