Which 2013 game told the better story: Bioshock Infinite or The Last of Us.

Oh wise gents of the GB, help me settle an argument with a friend. I loved both games and thought the twist at the end of Bioshock Infinite was legendary, but I believe The Last of Us tells the better story throughout the experience.
Anyone want to offer their opinions?

Well if I am going to literally talk about the story itself then I would say BI was more unique and told a better story. The Last of us had a fairly cliche story but what set it apart was the character depth and how much you cared about them. Both of them had terrific writing though.

People often say that a game has a great story because it's "emotional". Last of Us tells a solid story but it's a tired one and done better in other forms of media. Infinite isn't perfect and there are flaws and plot holes in its story but it grabbed me and it was something I thought about days after and talked about with friends. I simply pushed through to the end of LoU and was glad to be done with it.

This. Sites like Grantland that don't typically even focus on video games were writing articles about Infinite's story.

I'd say Bioshock. For one, the twist at the end was great and the mibdfrick was really cool, but the fact that the game convinced you that you had a choice in how the story played out by offering you seemingly important decisions that had no bearing in the story was an aspect that really stuck out to me.

I enjoyed the commentary the game provided on pretty much the video game industry in general and the illusion of choice in games, and the ending pretty much blew my mind.
But I don't know, I felt more of an emotional connection with the characters of The Last of Us.
The relationships between Booker and Elizabeth and Joel and Ellie were both done so well, but the feels that got dropped in The Last of Us drew me in hard core.

And infinite universes hasn't been beaten in to the ground?

This makes me sad. It's so far removed from the spirit of experiencing what games have to offer.

But I thought you hated Mass Effect 3?

Not even close, compared to the zombie, post apocalypse, survival stuff that we've been inundated with.

I'm going Bioshock as well. The music was also amazing in that game and really helped the story along.

The Last of Us for me. Its not exactly a brand new story idea, but I still somehow was so wrapped up in it. I cared for the character so much more.
At the same time, I recently watched a video that I believe Tactical1 linked, that blew a lot of holes into the Infinite story.

I never played TLoU but Infinite was one of the more engrossing stories I can remember when playing a game. The mindblowing ending had me standing up

Infinite was good for the the first half and then it became so repetitive it lost me. Haven't played The Last of Us yet.
The first Bioshock is still the best one imo.
