That's what so awesome about that fight, little strategies you can employ even if you decide to battle him head to head. And the fact that it's a slow, thoughtful encounter elevates it even further for me.

The sacrifice made by the final boss was one of the most memorable experiences in my video game career. It was painful having to finish that battle...

Also another great boss, but more because of what it represented. I also like that there is no music playing during the fight.

No music. Encouragement from the boss. And takes place in a flower patch.

Doesnt make it any easier knowing that if her true story was released, she'd be a national hero. She's still a hero in my heart.

She's a really good female video game character, the best that comes to my mind, in fact.

She's not sexualized, she's tough, intelligent, and in a position of authority, and she feels like a genuine woman. What I mean is that she's not written like a male character but only portrayed to be a woman.

That's another topic, though.

Storm eagle on megaman X. Just loved the music in his level and fighting him in an outside boss battle on a falling plane.

ALMA ninja gaiden. Maybe not my favorite... that might take some time to think of, but it was definitely my most frustrating. I simply couldn't beat the bitch for about 4-5 hours

Took me like a week to beat her on Master Ninja

I need to compose a list. I have lots

I would say the final fight against Ocelot in MGS4.

-No weapons
-No codec calls
-No equipment
-You basically have to beat him to death with your bare hands
-The music changes over the course of the battle in chronological order of the games' releases and each time the music changes, so does Ocelot's fighting style.
-The knowledge that Ocelot is The Boss' son

quote:

The Boss in MGS3

The most sickening part of that fight is after you defeat her and the game makes YOU pull the trigger to kill her and advance the story.

Every single fight - Shadow of the Colossus Because they were all awesome

This is the first thing I thought of considering the game is only made up of boss battles, . Figuring out how to defeat every colossus was entertaining and very satisfying if you could do it without the help of a guide or walkthrough. Ill admit, there were a few mixed in that I couldn't figure out on my own.

Its a great series. The complexity of the story was what made it so awesome. Some of the bosses like psycho mantis frick with your mind too. IMO the best part is the twist that happens after the credits roll. Left me saying WTF everytime.

That was a cool fight considering the way it closed out the main story of him and Solid Snake. Cycling through the music of each game was a nice touch too.

I forgot about that. That's an important design decision, forcing the player to end her life.

It's a series that I can't recommend without at least some reservation. (I've only played the mainline games, none of the handheld stuff.)

- To get the full effect of the story, you need to play them in release order.
- The first game hasn't aged very well (though there is a remake that's fared better).
- As the series goes on, they wrestle control away from the player more and more to tell the story. This ends up with you watching the game as much or more than you are actually playing the game.
- The story is (IMO) needlessly complex and if you don't enjoy it, it's going to be hard sitting through those 30 minute long cut scenes or codec conversations.

Having said all of that...
- It has some of the most memorable gaming moments and characters of the last 15 years, as you've seen just in this thread.
- They're still really fun games
- All of them are full of interesting details, little easter eggs and secrets to discover.
- Though convoluted, the stories are really original especially for video games. The stories cover such things as: war, how genetics shape people, how information is transferred from one generation to the next, the nature of video games, society's ever growing reliance on technology and that's just scratching the surface.

You could just play them all as straight up stealth games, largely ignoring the story, but doing so would miss the point.
