I had a red and white deck that just murdered. It was worth 500 easily. Got it taken during an assembly, never got it back.

Eta: That ended my MtG days.

I was just thinking about how none of us dared to bring that shite to school due to the risk of confiscation.

We played during studying hall or before school started. I found out years later a dude went to the office and claimed they were his...a-hole.

He's a little more on the normal side, into sports and stuff. No women though and the pics him and his friends post of each other on fb are really gay...

I would have raised hell. That's like getting a laptop taken.

Bro I'll meet up with you right now and we can hunt this guy down. That shite's in the "You just don't do that" section of the bro code.

Never played magic seems silly to spend money to be competitive. I just got into the lord of the rings lcg. It's co-op not competitive. And everyone has the same cards. All the packs cost the same and aren't randomized.

The game is changing and MTG is figuring it out by changing to a quicker rotation in standard to make money. Modern sees to many people with a hand full of decks that dominate the tourneys and very rarely change unless a ban comes out for a card or two or something new pops up in standard that is viable in Modern.

Pre-release formats and drafts are easy way to go as they are cheap and if you get some high demand cards trade them in quick to get other cards you need or as others have mentioned can get very expensive. When including specific land cards a lot of competitive decks are well over $1000 including EDH decks.

My 8yo enjoys it as she will do 2 headed Giant pre-release and draft with me.

Other variations seem to be popular now like tiny leaders(EDH variant) and Frontier which is a newer variant of extended.
