Yeah... it's everything you would expect to find. Dudes with backpacks. Neck beards. arse cracks. And BO. Oh, god... the BO. The primary reason I switched to MTGO.

Man, this is gotten pretty damn complicated in the last 20 years. I played in middle and high school but we just bought packs and played whatever decks we built. We played fast and loose with the actual rules most of the time.

It's a collectible card game where you build your own decks through purchasing the cards in packs, etc. (As opposed to games like NetRunner where there's a set grouping of cards you can build from).

They release a bunch of expansions each year, retiring old ones, to keep money flowing.

It's a pricey hobby. Especially considering it might not be your cup of tea.

It doesn't have to be too pricey. There are budget decks anyone can build and play with in all formats, and perform well at casual and semi-casual events such as Friday Night Magic. While they might not be able to perform well in a super competitive environment such as Pro Tour, you can absolutely have fun with the game with little investment should you choose to do so.

That's why I said its an adult version. It's much more complex I'm sure. But my point is the same. It's an adult trading card game, with adult prices

or you can just play limited and be on a level playing field with everyone for the price of a movie ticket

Absolutely. And it's a great way to slowly build a collection over time.

It costs roughly $400 to build a decent competitive Pokemon deck.

I wouldn't call that "child" prices

Edit: Most standard/Modern decks in Magic are very similarly priced

When my brother moved into my apartment with me when I lived in Fayetteville he ended up making friends with the owner of a card shop like 2 minutes away from where we lived. He got pretty heavy into it and talked me into making my own deck. It was nice to experience something different but I realized it would quickly become a money sink if I didn't back out. I spent about $60 just to be remotely competitive in the local scene playing casually. That was about 6 years ago but my cards are still laying around here in a case somewhere.

I dabbled a bit in high school.

It's a pretty fun game. Think I had a red/black deck and a green/white
