What does Pokemon GO do for Nintendo until the NX?

The NX is a very mysterious console. Nobody knows much about it other than its suppose to be Nintendo's magnum opus apparently. But Pokemon GO has taken the world by storm and their stock rose I believe 7% almost overnight.

Nintendo apparently is also signing deals with several media companies to do either short series or animated movies. The latter of which Miyamoto said "we didn't explicitly say that." You pretty much know that's full of shite. Either way, you got the new theme park and the new Pokemon games coming out in less 4 months, as well as the NX coming out 4 months later WITH BOTW as a launch title. God damn that was a mouth full.

Are they secretly in a huge upward spiral with these new developments of late? Or is this just something they should've been doing since the N64 when they had the console market by the nuts?

And yes, I know there is a Pokemon thread here but I'm interested to know what other console fans and current fans think of the whole thing.

if they integrate pokemon GO accounts with pokemon sun and moon, it will drive 3ds sales for sure.

I don't know how pogo and the nx could help each other directly

I think he was saying that Nintendo should develop for other systems by selling their IP to XB, PS, etc.

Not that Niantic was the one that developed Pokemon GO.

Nintendo has more cash than Sony as an entirety, not just the Playstation division.

Nintendo has put consoles with outdated hardware the last 2 generations but they certainly haven't lost any money on console sales.

After Pokemon Go they should, they would have never hit these numbers on their own devices.

Well I did preorder the new 3ds monster hunter edition today, after being on the fence about it, the new Pokemon as well.

At this point the wii was an exception. Even then their attach rate was bad.

In process only. Nintendo simply abandoning consoles and making games third party for other systems is a lot different than this kind of approach....working with companies to figure out cool ways to bring their properties to more people while still making consoles.

Who gives a shite about the numbers when it would make them creatively bankrupt? Seriously, how can they make a Metroid, Zelda, or Mario game on an iPhone? Pokemon has always been meant for mobile. There's a reason they never attempted to make a mainstream Pokemon game onto a home console. It just wouldn't work.

All they did was bring Pokemon in the real world, which any fan of the series has wanted. No one has had this thought with any of Nintendo's other franchises. That's why it works, and Nintendo's other franchises for the most part wouldn't work on mobile devices. All I can think of that would work are Animal Crossing, Warioware, and Dr. Mario. The rest would sink (although Fire Emblem is somewhat feasible).

The day Nintendo leaves the console market is the day video games die. They have been the innovators in the industry, save for online. That's the only thing Nintendo hasn't been the innovators of in the industry. Almost everything else that Microsoft and certainly Sony has gotten in the industry Nintendo devised first. Creativity would be dead in favor of bullshite companies like EA and Ubisoft.

3 of the top 5 most sold gaming platforms are Nintendo and 7 of the top 12. Nintendo is just fine on their own.

You were in the right direction until this.

Pokemon Stadium
Pokemon Snap
Pokemon Stadium 2
Pokemon Colosseum
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

All on home consoles.

Those aren't mainstream. Those are spinoffs. Why haven't they attempted to do a game where you're a trainer and seek to be the best trainer in the land? Because it wouldn't be as good. There was one once in development for the Gamecube, but they scratched it.

Colosseum and XD were pretty much that. I doubt it was because they didn't think it'd work. Moreso the fact that creating a game the size and scale of a full-fledged pokemon game at the graphical level of the gamecube/wii generation wasn't possible on their consoles' hardware. That's a LOT of models and features in a game at those times. Not to mention the world size would have to rival of not surpass that of Twilight Princess.

"Pretty much" proves my point. It's not one of the main Pokemon games, it's a spinoff. You wouldn't claim Pokemon Diamond to be the same.

Trading and battling friends is a big part of it. The Gamecube version clearly wasn't going to do that. I think that was a smoking gun. It's also why I think mobile Smash Bros is a bad idea and that the 3DS version of the game isn't really played and a mere novelty. Pokemon is best as a handheld game.

Not necessarily, but as Pokemon GO proves, its a game that's best on the move. Smash Bros as mentioned earlier is a great example. It's meant to be played at home with many people around you. Pokemon is meant to be played with you training up your team, going to your friend's place with your team, and going at it. If you do this online, then something is lost in translation (really for both games). You can't tell me that you can make a Pokemon game just as good on the home console as you can handheld. That's why Nintendo has refused to do it. It wouldn't meet their standards and they'd be sellouts.
