The 380, it's performance for the value, is fantastic. It's essentially an R9 285 with a 2% higher clock for just $199.

You can refresh and hit the upvote and your downvote will go away when you refresh again. I learned that by doing the same thing a while back.

If you are looking to swap companies, the 380 is definitely the better of those two. If you wanted to keep GeForce in the mix, there's the GTX 960 at the same price point as the R9 380. Personally, I'd try swapping and see if you like it better. They are very close, different articles give a slight edge to each in other words.

Should I upgrade form my 780??? when i try to google 780 vs 970 most places say the 780 is better performanmce wise, I don't get how. 4g vs 3g card?

Don't get me wrong i love my card and dont have any performance issues for what i do with my rig, but don't wana miss a good deal if its a good upgrade. i WILL be upgrading eventually for star citizen anyway. Wait out for a 980 or better?

I have a 970 and it ran Crysis 3 on max settings at 60 fps. It's done pretty well for me.

VRAM capacity is just one of many factors affecting a video card's performance. And the presence of additional VRAM can only help if the GPU itself has the bandwidth to move that much data in and out of vram, and only if the game actually needs that much (if you're playing at 1080p, 3gb vs 4gb will seldom make a difference, if ever).

However, whoever said the 780 performed better than the 970 is incorrect. The difference isn't huge, however, so it's not necessarily a financially sound decision to spend $300 on a card that may give you around 15% higher frame rate.

Although, just glancing at ebay listings, it seems as though people are selling their used GTX 780s for $250+ (the used market prices are just ridiculous right now. I'm not sure what's going on).
