This is the crux of it. Anything that's a hobby is probably pretty lame in terms of the "What else you could do with your time?" question.

Because seriously, if you're going to act like that then you should pretty much only spend your time helping the needy, building houses for the poor, etc. There's nothing else "worthwhile," in that sense. Video games are like watching sports, hunting, fishing, classic cars, etc., large wastes of time in the grand scheme of things.

The problem is spending all day inside playing video games. Kids should be outside playing too. No reason they can't do both.
