you should man. watch that tutorial series I linked in the OP if you do. the vids he made when he first started playing minecraft have helped me out as well.

my biggest problem atm is figuring out what I want to do. I mean the possibilities are damn near limitless. I just finished exploring all of my map (take a bed with you and sleep in caves ftw) and I found the place I want to build my permanent place (jungle, mountains, and snow areas collide there plus it's not too far from the desert). So now I'm stuck, effectively a writers block, on what exactly I want to build. About the only thing I'm sure of is that a batcave will be built at some point.

Yep, I built my own 1.7.10 modpack that kinda combined the two. I love playing with red power stuff. All the machines to auto do the lame stuff like farming/quarrying/etc is amazing.

I will get you it later tonight when I get home from work, I have it private on the tekkit launcher cause I didn't want to bother with getting all the permissions from the mod authors that you are suppose to do to make it public.

There is a massive 1.7.10 modpack that basically has almost everything you can get for 1.7.10 on the tekkit launcher. I didn't go that far, I am just doing the mods that I actually like.

for those of you playing on console, once you get bored with vanilla console you should try out vanilla PC. Then move on to one of the modpacks on ATLauncher, FTB, or Tekkit (Sp?). Once you get the hang of a modpack you will rarely go back to vanilla.

Also, for build inspiration I would encourage you to check out youtubers and twitch streamers. Some of the guys I watch are direwolf20, Dom77, other guys on the Hermitcraft vanilla server, Etho, Sevadus, and VintageBeef.

solid advice. bet that's what I do

If you end up liking it and want to make a server, I can put up the server files I use for it later. With all the cease and desist orders, it took me awhile to find 1.7.10 server files when cauldron shut down. Don't know if that is still the case, been awhile since I looked for the files.

So I've died twice in lava while strip mining below my home. both times I was carrying a lot of minerals including diamonds, iron, gold, and once with a emerald.

both times all of my stuff was destroyed in the lava

That happens to everyone.

The trick is to keep an ear out for lava...and carry a few blocks of dirt and stone so when you inevitably hit lava, you can plug it up or direct it.

yea I bring blocks of rock and wood. been stopping up holes of lava like crazy. layers 1-6 have been lava in every tunnel so far. swear I built on an active volcano. every direction I turn I run into lava pretty quick. didn't have this trouble in the home I made when I first started. of course that home was in more of a flat area and my current permanent residence is in the mountains.

I did find this video showing how to mine straight through lava that I'm gonna try. LINK

You might know this but emeralds are a dime a dozen in mountainous areas so don't sweat that one you lost
