What game has EA touched the last 4 years that actually lived up to expectations?

ETA: I'll actually give them credit for Battlefield 3...they actually made a fun FPS

I'm playing through Dead Space 3 right now and I think it is pretty good. It isn't as good as the first one but it is still a good buy. I've gotten 7 hours of game play from it and still have a few chapters to go. That thrills me beyond belief. That being said, not a big fan of EA either.

Probably because all of them are thinking of committing workplace violence so the game was just an extension of their thought processes.

or dl simcity classic on dosbox for free
or the snes version of SC or SC2k for a snes emulator

Sim City is down to 2.5 on Metacritic after a full two days of release.

The first page of the General Discussion forum on the SC website was like 90% "I want a refund" threads.

Not offering a pre-load was kind of dumb. Not offering a pre-load on a game that requires constant connection AND (according to them) relies heavily on a server for processing and calculations is inexcusable. They knew how many pre-orders they had and how much of a load JUST the game would put on servers. This is a terrible, terrible launch.

ETA: Not to mention the game itself.

Posts from the SC forums

I find it highly ironic that a game designed to simulate building an infrastructure and then catering to the needs of a large population sucks so hard at doing it themselves.

They apparently got tiny little servers to store our tiny little cities on.

From their web advertisements this game was on 50 Most Anticipated Game of the Year sites. How could they have possibly kno...oh, wait.

EA Advertised in the Store that the SIMCITY was PC/MAC compatible so I paid good money for the game only to Find when i Picked it up today that the DISC IS PC ONLY... This is False Advertising and I intend to make a formal complaint to the Australian Consumer Commission, for False and Misleading the Australian General public No Where on your in store advertising did it say or suggest that this was a PC Disc only the Display said Pc/MAC This item was sold to me under false pretences and to many other Australian Consumers.

Your thoughts?

And probably my personal favorite...

quote:

I am calling out EA CEO if he is man enough to come out and apologize and explain everyone what the situation is on national TV LIKE I SAID IF HE MAN ENOUGH.... THIS WHAT IS CORPORATE GREED AND MILKING CONSUMERS FOR MONEY BUT NOT PROVIDING * I GOT INTO A SERVER DIFFERENT FROM OTHER NIGHT THOUGH AND I CAN EVEN SEE MY SAVE OR ANYTHING. I PROMISE NEVER AGAIN. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME AND I WAS GOING TO BUY ALL THE DLC BUT * THIS I AM RETURNING THE GAME.

And here's one from the lead producer of SC:

quote:

"We've got experience from Spore and Darkspore," Katserelis said, citing other recent Maxis games. "EA is an on online company. We're definitely watching what's going on at Blizzard, and we're putting in backstops and checks to try to prevent those kind of things from happening."

So will the game get better once they catch up and patch the wrongs. Or is it a sinking ship?

Catching up would take a massive overhaul to fix the main complaints. I would imagine its a sinking ship.

The "NAM" - network addon mod - from simptropolis is a must. It "fixes" the traffic simulation as best it can be fixed (remember its a statistical simulation, not an actual simulation), and adds a host of new transportation options.

Other than that, there are numerous new skins for buildings as well as new lots with new properties as well (my favorite is a smog cleaning unit that sucks in pollution and spits out cleaner air). Be warned, starting from scratch on there is VERY daunting because each lot is built upon texture and prop packs that are not included in each lot. Youll have to do a bit of research before you start downloading and installing lots otherwise you will have a city full of brown boxes (which indicate you have a lot with a missing lot or prop file).

The NAM and CAM "colossus addon mod" do not require any additional packs. I'd start by installing those two and then getting a feel for the game.

I see a lot of comments like this. Lots of consumers whining that EA is greedy. No, EA is trying to turn a profit - thats not greed - thats business.

If consumers wouldnt buy this shite then EA would either go belly up or have to provide a higher quality product. Consumer ignorance is to blame for EAs business model, not greed. I tried to warn EVERYONE on here and look how many dolts still purchased this steaming pile of manure!
