Never played Shadows of the Colossus before and finally borrowed a PS3 to check it off the old bucket list.

So the little guy was curious and since we beat BotW together, I figured why not.

We're about an hour in and this is awesome. We just had to get past the initial Japanese-ness, but now he's super into it. Anybody else play this classic with their kid?

ETA this game is fricking difficult.

Yeah, the friend that loaned me the PS three texted me that awhile ago. But that's not the point of this thread.

I mostly post on this board about father son bullshite cause I'm old and lame. Just wondering if anyone had similar experiences.

Game is a masterpiece, one of the greatest soundtracks in gaming history as well.

Some of the later Colossus fights are really great too.

Half the fight is figuring out how to bring down the Colossus, talk it out with your son I guess, ask him what he thinks about the fight, ideas, etc.

fricking PS3 just crapped out on us, that sucks. But it was fun, hopefully it will work tomorrow. We took out Colossus one and were working on two.

But you're right about the figuring out thing, that's what I look forward to the most with the kiddo.

I've totally made peace with the fact that I may have to Google, but I won't let little P see it. He needs to think dad is smart for as long as he can.

I would suggest trying to avoid this. of the 16 colossus only 2-3 are really difficult to figure out but it's very satisfying when you do.

The ones I had trouble with, I knew what to do but it was a pain in the arse to pull it off.

I like the game but I think it's a few Colossi too long, which is strange considering the limited scope of the gameplay but whatever. Several of them are forgettable filler and the game is weakened by their inclusion IMO.

That isn't lame at all. You sound like an awesome dad. I hope I get to enjoy video games with my future kids.

Incredible game and experience.

The second to last one is my favorite.

Followed by the turtle one.

I actually played about halfway through it with my son and daughter (7 and 5) and they really enjoyed watching me. It is funny, however, that they started to pick up on the subtle darkness of what you are doing.

"But daddy, why are we killing these things? They didn't do anything to you."

"Yeah...that's a good point."

Not a father son, but my roommates watched me play it. I would come home from class or work and one of them would be playing it because they thought it was awesome.

Stupid update that nobody asked for:

So the original PS3 crapped out enough so we got frustrated enough and gave up.

Papa P decided that the PSN version was too shitty because of crappy internet connection out here so we gave up last weekend.

BUT TONIGHT!!!! We got our hands on another PS3 and it was fricking awesome!! Took out three collossi and it was awesome!!!
