You're absolutely right
In the newer games you also take nature,EVs and IVs into account as well.

I still remember the excitement I had when I opened a pack of cards and found a Charizard inside. When you were 8, that was like winning the lottery and getting to bang an OT10 all at the same time.

Opposite for me. I got Red and my brother got Blue. Was fitting considering that when I got the Charizard mentioned above, he got a Blastoise at the exact same time. Our cards matched our games.

Anybody remember Pokemon Stadium for N64? You could load your Gameboy Pokemon and battle them against friends on the console. Coolest thing ever created.
