How is this different from what PS gamers are doing now?

You're making the same failed arguments the FTC made. Sure, this might be bad for SONY, but how is it bad for CONSUMERS?

if you're so HIGH on Game Pass and what it supposedly offers, you want CoD on Game Pass Day 1. i don't know why you're being so naive about it.

Well yes, having them on Game Pass day one is clearly a benefit to Microsoft. No one denies this. That doesn't make it bad for consumers.

If they could make it the case it's bad for consumers, different story. But it's clear it's all been about "it's bad for us" and the courts have said "tough...be better at business".

perhaps killing the competition, or in this case, outspending it, to where there's only one option available, and you're being gouged for a product that used to cost half as much as it did before.

Today, Activision.
Tomorrow... EA?
Next Year... Take Two?

Like someone else mentioned, it's going to go the way of Disney and it's aquisitions of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, etc.

Let me ask you... are you a satisfied Disney customer? I can tell from your comments on the Movie/TV board that it's seriously lacking for your tastes.

This comment makes sense in a gaming context if you're talking about Sony, not Microsoft.

Lots of Twitter activity claiming that a CNBC reporter has reported that the CMA and MS/ABK have agreed to a small divestiture, which would mean this deal closes on Monday or Tuesday of next week unless the FTC is able to get an inunction through appeal (seems unlikely). Current deal deadline is July 18 but they would definitely extend that if they're close to a deal with the CMA and would probably "close over" the UK if they aren't able to come to a deal with the CMA.

I can't find anything to corroborate this divestiture claim, but quite a few people who have been right about every step of this process are saying this on Twitter so I am inclined to believe it. Additionally, the CMA needs a "win" in order to save face so a small divestiture would make sense here.

I'll post a legit article as soon as I can find one, but right now I'd classify this as a rumor only.

Or maybe Sony will partner with a developer and make a competitor

Oh you mean like Ubisoft and Xdefiant ?

They have IPs that they could use to compete if they actually dedicated resources to them. But they’ve all played like shite in the past.

SOCOM
MAG
Killzone
Resistance

None of those are arcade shooters, though. “But this was never about CoD. It was about mobile gaming and an App Store where we’re gonna ask our competitors to host it for us. And if they don’t let us, we’re gonna lobby Congress to force them like they did in the EU.”

It's only about COD from Sony's perspective. The FTC failed because they focused solely and completely on Call of Duty and didn't provide any evidence at all that making any other games exclusive would affect competition in a negative light. Because that was the FTC's argument, once MS testified under oath that they would keep COD on PS the FTC's entire case fell apart.

This is nonsensical. Microsoft doesn't need anyone to host anything for them. Their strategy is to use advertisements in their games that are already listed on the Google and Apple stores (plus the ABK games that are already listed) to push their new mobile gaming store. They view this as a "hole in the portfolio," as was shown during the injunction hearing. It was clearly laid out that their entire strategy for purchasing ABK was centered around mobile gaming. The other segments of ABK are also great grabs for them, but that clearly wasn't the primary purpose at all.

if the roles were reversed, we'd be having the same argument. hell, there were folks having this same argument about Sony's acquisition of Bungie and Destiny. the noise just wasn't as loud because Bungie doesn't even compare to Activision and CoD.

the only consumers this acquisition benefits will be PC and Xbox consumers that subscribe to Game Pass. that's what you're failing to realize and acknowledge.

also, come to find that the judge has a son that works for Microsoft. even admitted to it in court. that's not biased at all.

sure, that information is weeks old, but still ridiculous.

While Microsoft is building an Xbox mobile store, it will need regulators to take action against Apple and Google to ensure such a store can thrive on Android and iOS devices. Apple doesn’t allow alternative stores on its iPhone and iPad devices, and even rival payment methods aren’t available in most countries.

Companies like Microsoft and Spotify are hoping the EU’s Digital Markets Act will force Apple and Google to change how they distribute apps on mobile devices, and ultimately open their platforms and stores up to competition.

it's hilarious that you, someone who claims to be anti-government overreach, would support something like this.

you might as well ask sony to allow game pass on playstation and playstation+ on xbox.

And much like the Movies and TV Board, I end up playing a lot of quirky indie / small studio stuff rather than major releases because I am not a fan of overhyped shite I won’t play while it is the next big thing.

Last thing I remember buying as a preorder or on release date was an Arkham Horror game and that was because I loved the board game version.

Well yes, those are certainly possibilities.

This is a pretty funny comment from someone who clearly wants government to block the MS/ABK deal. Regardless, I never said whether or not I agree with it. I simply said what their strategy is.

The reality is that governments widely oppose Apple's and Google's duopoly on app stores. Whether I support or oppose government action there is completely irrelevant. It's clearly going to be happening.

The deal has been approved in 38 countries at this point. Only the hacks in the FTC and the CMA believe this will hurt consumers, and the FTC wasn't able to prove a single one of their claims in court. Not a single one. The CMA sees the writing on the wall and is negotiating with Microsoft.

So we are a giant step closer to paying for gamepass and not having to pay for a wow sub?

I know this is a CoD board but man..I love the idea of new players trying wow for "free"

Would love for them to make the game playable on console and cross platform too. Has Bobby's fate been discussed in this deal? Dies msft keep him on and stay out or think there is some restructuring there ?

Mmo nerd out!

Might be. I'm really interested in how they're going to handle this. Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online are both on Game Pass, so it's not like they WON'T put an MMO on Game Pass. WOW feels like a totally different animal though.

I think he's going to have to ride off into the sunset. Might mitigate the ABK employee lawsuits/claims.

The current game has mods that support controller play but only works really well with certain classes.

The other thing that is really interesting though is this current expansions has made steps to eliminate many "required" mods for endgame play and in some cases outright broken/disabled mods from working correctly.

This helps port the game to console. Even with all that said..wow is just built and conceived from old school days were they never intended it to be on console.

Overall I am a xbox pc guy.
I am sad to miss out on the many great Sony exclusives though. And Frick Bobby. The thought of ABK ip in Spencer's hands is a step up in my eyes.

With Game Pass Ultimate, they don't really have to port WOW to XBox. They could just add it to Game Pass as a PC only game.
