How can Sony dominate the market for 20 years when all I've heard is how Xbox Live was the superior product for the life of the Xbox 360, the Xbox One had the Kinect/Cable integration, and the Series X/S have Game Pass?

Having the superior product does not necessarily mean you have the most market share.

Example: Nikola Tesla had an arguably better idea for electricity but he definitely didn't capture the market in any way and died nearly broke.

ETA: A large reason for Sony's market dominance is the anti-competitive relationship it shares with the Japanese regulatory authority. It's past time the USA reacted accordingly, but this never would have happened if Sony hadn't meddled in the Activision deal. It is important to realize that this is completely and totally Sony's doing.

The Series S is trash.

I don't know anything about this. I assumed it had more to do with Japan hating anything that isn't made in Japan.

Sony is crying and pouting about the merger. This past week, they went into super, act like a child tantrum.

They could of bought activision,

Realistically, I am pretty sure Gamepass is losing money for Microsoft.

I am not saying this is incorrect, but GP revenue is $2-$4 billion annually.

Cloud hardware costs are subsidized by the Azure Business division really. All the data center infrastructure is already a sunk cost essentially and they are finding another profit path, that is why Game Pass is a thing.

Basically the largest egress of cash is too game publishers, and they got billions a year to spread.

Sony's market cap is $112 Billion

Sony cash on hand for 2021 was $44.081B, a 42.59% increase from 2020.
Sony cash on hand for 2020 was $30.913B, a 22.91% increase from 2019.

Microsoft market cap is $2 Trillion

Microsoft cash on hand for 2020 was $136.527B, a 2.02% increase from 2019.

The disparity of these two companies is staggering.

Sony fans need to embrace PC gaming if they refuse to play Xbox

I have played tons of games on Gamepass that I never would have considered purchasing.

Spot on.

When it is all done, I am going to have had 6 years of Game Pass Ultimate for the cost of Xbox Live with getting the $1 upgrade twice. Even then I got the XLive subscriptions under retail, so gaming got very cheap.

There have been so many good games come and go through GP, it is laughable when people try to discount the value of it.

I've been building up MS Rewards points that whole time, so I'll be able to get a couple years of Ultimate just using Rewards points once this current sub ends.

Cloud gaming market?

All those years of Sony letting PSNow remain in relative obscurity is finally paying off.

I'm honestly shocked anyone has posted about this. I've been updating this thread mostly because the latest news had been getting no traction on this board at all.

Anyway, this deal will still go through. Just like Apple won its appeal against the CMA last month, Microsoft and ABK will win their appeal here. It appears the UK has a problem with activists in the CMA.

Their reasoning here also makes no sense. "Cloud Gaming" is a nonexistent market. The CMA's ruling here is actually anti-consumer in every way.

So screw you Nintendo, it doesn't matter that Microsoft was going to enter into a deal to give you COD, we say you can't!

ETA: They have really opened this up for a solid appeal by Microsoft and Activision.

let's not act like any previous version of CoD on Nintendo has had the same quality as the PlayStation/Xbox version.

Maybe not, but it is still possible to put them on the Switch. The CMA is basically protecting COD on Playstation at the expense of Nintendo and all of the Cloud Gaming services Microsoft entered into agreements with.

Which is really the whole point here. They're basically saying they're doing this to protect Cloud Gaming competition, but this actually reduces the availability of Activision games on Cloud Gaming services that weren't going to get MS and ABK games previously and still won't if this deal doesn't go through. Making that argument at all is a complete joke. This is why everyone was certain this deal would get approval in the UK just last week.
