If it weren't for the yellow, that X-Power would by far look the best right out of the box. Shouldn't too hard to paint like I did for my Mpower. The new X97 Mpower looks like a pain in the arse to paint though.
Not fan of the coloring of the X99 Deluxe. ASUS designs are a bit over-the-top for me most of the time.
Not quite as bad as the bullets on the MSI Big Bang Xpower...

Yeah, I will take off the top plate/cover over the heat sinks. They are just glued on to the top. I'm a huge MSI MB fan ever since my Z77 MPower, they won my little fanboy heart that year, even though I now have more ASUS boards ATM.
As for the MSI Gun Board... I would like to personally meet the ppl who purchased those boards and just tell them, fckk you... IDK why.

so I used to be big into computers around 1996-2002ish, played a lot of games, worked on custom builds, etc but I haven't stayed with it over the years. My interest in gaming as a whole diminished and I'm just basically ignorant to it all now.
I want to get back in the game. I want to get back in to PC games and PC's in general.
I've read through the custom build thread a bit, I'm not sure if doing a custom build myself would be wise at this time, but it may be something I do in the future.
Can yall recommend a solid gaming PC for ~$700 or less? I've browsed on Amazon, newegg, etc but my ignorance really limits my ability to discern the various items

If you built computers back then, you can build one now. The process has not changed. The slots, headers, sockets, interface connections, etc. look different, but it's all still the act of screwing in motherboards, putting cards in slots, mounting drives, plugging things in, etc.
You are not going to get a solid prebuilt gaming PC for $700. All the prebuilts put more money into the CPU than necessary and throw in a really weak graphics card.
Here's a $700 build. If you find a prebuilt that has better gaming performance, buy it. Or post some of the ones you found and we'll compare.

damn, I really love that website
for reference, the last time I built a PC it was with a Pentium III and PATA was IDE
It's taking a while to get used to new standards, etc
thanks
do you think it would be worth it to spend more and get USB 3.0?

Maybe so... Careful with the 970 chipset boards. I chose that one because it's a well-regarded board for running the 125w tdp chips. Others in the same price category lack sufficient VRM cooling and may throttle the CPU at higher load.
If you're going to get a board with onboard USB 3.0 headers, just go ahead and grab a 990FX board. Better overclocking support, and support for crossfire/SLI.

Found some old shite in a house today.
The Nautical thing ranges in price from $300 to $800 on eBay. I couldn't find one as old as the one I have thought. Mine is from 1934 and the oldest one I saw on eBay was from 1946 but it was in better shape.

I have some foil ones or some shite that are worth something. I will go through them when I get a chance and send you all the trainers.
