Yeah, but it will just be a HTPC and not a SteamBox. Those passive cooled designs for even APUs won't slide when gaming.
I do love the NUC designs from akasa. Maybe if Iris Pros weren't so expensive i'll replace the 7850k with an IRIS Pro NUC in an akasa case.

I'm going back and forth what GPU to get for my upcoming build. Would the group suggest forking over ~$500 for a new 780 or buying two 7970s for the same (if not less) price on ebay? I have not considered 290s due to the crappy stock cooler, but perhaps I am not up to date on the newest offerings.

You can get aftermarket cooled 290s on eBay for $350. By far the best card for the money

I have one with a stock cooler. They're actually very effective when you set a custom fan curve.

I was gonna try to play some BF3 with ya at some point but Origin still won't launch from my PC so oh well

Navigate to origin folder inside of program files. Try both .exe's for x86 and x64.

Yeah, I bought a 290 with a reference cooler on purpose. 1. To see if it was unlockable to a 290x. 2. Because it's getting a water block shortly.
