I just showed my wife some gta mods like ironman. She thought it was cool and wanted to know if I could do that. Disappointing to tell her no...

Nvidia pricing has always been a bit of a mystery to me.

Power Outage

This morning my started a series of that landed spending nearly $600 bucks on nearly nothing.

So this morning a severe thunderstorm rolled through our area. This lead to lighting striking a neighborhood transformer and shutting down power for 2-2.5hrs. Power going out really wasn't "that big" of a deal.. until when the power was restored our AC wouldn't kick on.

So this started a series of the following:

1. Checking breakers
2. Checking Fuses
3. Checking Outside Breaker
4. Buying New Thermostat
5. Installing Thermostat
6. Calling Dad
7. Reading through Manuals
8. Installing new breakers
9. Calling 24/7 AC Service on a SUNDAY!!!
10. PAYING PREMIUM FOR AC GUY TO WORK ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON
11. Problem resolved around 6:00pm

Long and short of it, internal AC transformer fired along with the thermostat. Only good thing I got from the deal was finally purchasing a Nest thermostat.

Has anyone ever used a Nestbefore? Little thing is cool.

They do look cool, but frankly I don't even have much use for a programmable thermostat. I keep it super cold 24/7. But I do have a touch screen programmable because it was the cheapest one with the auto-changeover from heat to cold option.

This. If so your builder should have been the one to take care of it this soon.

Ehhhhhhhhhh...wrong answer.

A builder is not insurance and doesn't warranty against acts of nature such as lighting strikes or power surges from storms.

I am a licensed residential contractor and have built well over 100 houses in the past 10 years. Mostly spec houses so I have had to explain this to many people.

People always get what is covered in the 5 year warranty period confused with insurance and just general welfare to be honest. It's a pet peeve of mine.

THE COOLER!!!

I have that cooler! A while back a customer had insisted on the best of the best parts for his videography business (editing HD video for blu-ray). Insisted on 32GB of G.Skill. Had to buy 2 16GB kits at the time, and it came with the coolers. Could only fit one, so he just told me to keep the other. Never used it until recently. Found it in a box a few days ago and put it in for shits and giggles.

That cooler is beast, yo! Before I was just running my ram at the rated speeds and timings, but now I'm running them at the rated speeds and timings with tiny LED fans in front of them!

Yea for some reason I forgot the part of it being caused by the storms. I was thinking it just broke.

Yea that's on your homeowners if you want to file it depending on damage and deductible.

You just wouldn't believe the requests I have heard of what people think they can get away with under the new home warranty.

"I put a hole in my wall moving in so I need to file a warranty claim"

or

"My kid flushed a toy down and clogged my toilet. Can you send the plumber out to unclog it under the warranty"

Most of the time I do what I can to help people and not have pissed off customers but over the years I have learned you have to put your foot down pretty early about what is covered by law vs what they think you should covered or they will have you jumping through hoops.

I had one couple that were in their house for 6 months and asked me to repaint the interior. Not because there was anything wrong with the paint but because they no longer liked the color and thought the warranty covered that. They wrote letters to the BBB and State Attorney General over it. The AG laughed about it and the BBB tried to extort money from me because they are a paid mafia that are legally allowed to operate basically.

I hate people and that's why I build specs mostly with a rare custom house every now and then if they accept my high arse bid.

I don't doubt it. We moved into a new build a couple of years ago and even on our side dealing with warranty issues was a pain in the arse. Our builder was a jackass. He would say things like well this isn't exactly a half a million dollar house. I'm like yea that's irrelevant when our tiles in the floor are cracking and coming out 3 months into the house. I made him fix the big stuff, at the end I just said frick it and fixed what I could myself cause he was such a pain in the arse.

Yea some contractors give the whole bunch of us a bad name. I fix stuff like that no matter how much the house cost. It's bullshite to leave someone hanging on that stuff.
