That's what I was thinking. I know streaming requires AT LEAST an i5 to be even decent. Oh well.. i'll keep on looking. Have y'all heard of maingear? I guess they have prebuilt gaming PCs. but they seem to be pretty hefty in price

I don't fly often anymore, but work still sends me to Maryland or DC once every one or two years. I hate everything about it, except for the quiet evenings without the kids.

I think the main reason those trips drag me down is because of how poorly I end up eating. They're always quick two-day trips with long work hours, so most of my meals come from a drive-through for convenience sake. Though it usually means I'm spending less than my per diem, and I get to keep my entire per diem regardless.

The entire experience of being in an airport or airplane is the worst part of it though.

Maingear, Puget, Falcon Northwest, Origin, etc. are all good PC boutiques, but not for a bargain. They'll never be cheaper than building yourself.

whats a decently priced i7 CPU?

I want to do an intel build next, but don't want to break the bank on some fancy arse i7.

My power supply should be good to handle the intel build. I also have the Corsair H55 Hydro Series water cooler. So I would just need the CPU, MOBO, and new Graphics card (currently have a 760 lol)

Yeah same with the eating. You grab something from the terminal, end up skipping lunch and doing fast food for supper. I try and do the hotel gyms but they always suck outside a treadmill. Per diem stresses me out, since i'm only getting 150 per day sounds great but not after a uptown hotel, ubers, meals and my week of car parking back at NO MSY.

Terminals are nasty and airplanes are even nastier. I want to shower after passing through both of those.

Think its the feeling of lost in translation. Yes we speak the same language but our culture is just a little different. Traveling alone is fun a few times a year but weekly really gets you down.

Why an i7 and not i5?

Edt: You want to stream, yeah you want those logical cores. If you want to stream I would suggest an 5820K, they are the same price as a 6700K. There is more cost associated with the 5820K since it is X99/LGA 2011-v3 and not LGA 1151. The MOBO will cost you around $50 bucks more but those 4 extra cores 2C/2T will greatly impact both you gaming experience and stream quality while encoding a broadcast.

Yeah, the rolled-up per diem sucks. Luckily, I get everything separate using GSA rates. The hotel is fully reimbursed and we get the government rate. The rental car is prepaid, parking/tolls/gas/mileage/etc. are reimbursed, and then I get a separate meal per diem, with the rate based on the city. If I'm going somewhere like Aberdeen, MD it's $54 per day for meals. So, I could eat well if I had the time and will to do so.

So glad I never had any interest The Division. Game is absolute trash on PC apparently and the player base is already nearly gone.

Apparently there are glitches and hacks galore, and multiple things like ammo count are client side instead of server side making for some easy edits for unlimited ammo, teleporting, etc.

Now Ubisoft mods are deleting posts and threads on the games sub reddit that are negative.

thread OP posted the graph showing Steam player numbers dropping from 118K to 24K inside of a week and the community manager locks the thread with the following comment:

I can assure you the playerbase is still very healthy and exceeding our expectations. Closing this thread to do away with such rumors.

Can't make this shite up.

Yikes.

Yeah, I almost wasted $60 on it or whatever it costs. I was looking for a reason to buy it, but in the end my gut told me to stay away.

The single player leveling up process is excellent.

The end game is really bad and everything you hear is true and it's actually worse.

But lvl 1-30 was a spectacular experience

Anyone here travels a lot? I've been flying from NO to Dallas twice a week, terminals and airplanes really get me down. I have about 2-3 months left of this routine.

Does flying frequently make anyone else "blue"?

My father does this right now.

2-3 weeks overseas consulting and 1 week in the USA.

Ever since hes started, he seems down and hes gotten sick from traveling so much.

I pretty much only played the solo story, I got about 50 hours out of it and I have paid full price in the past for games where the campaign was 10 hours. I feel I got my monies worth out of it and had fun.

Those games will never be good on PC in the current state. We have soo many options on the PC that once we run through something, we are moving onto the next.

Consoles are very limited with their selections, so things like The Division have a longer life.

The whole process just wears you down. Physically and emotionally..

Also planes remind me of campers. All that paneling and shtty fake leather feels like a nice 5th wheeler you see in Robert, LA's Yogi Bear.

It makes me wonder why anyone would ever want to be a flight attendant, other than for the free travel. I'm pretty sure the median pay is in the $30k range.

Question, guys. I'm trying to hold off on replacing my GFX card until the second half of the year when the new cards hopefully drop. Right now I'm running an old AMD 6970 (yeah, I know, I'm ready to upgrade).

Anyway, over the past week my monitor has been turning off then turning itself back on (no lag, happens almost instantly). My first thought was maybe my gfx card is getting ready to crap out and it's possibly overheating. Checked my temps, everything is 50 or below with the exception of the GPU core -- when under minimal load it's around 86 degrees. That seems high to me.

So I used the AMD Overdrive to manually max out the GPU fan, it pushed the temps down, but when I opened a game within two minutes it again resulted in the monitor flickering. This makes me think it might be my monitor that's having issues? What do y'all think? Is there a way I can check monitor temps?

Are we talking over 80 degrees before you even open a game? If so, that's not good. Are you sure the fan is even running?

Can you test your monitor on integrated graphics?

Right now I have Chrome and Microsoft Word open -- 84 degrees. And yes, I assume it was not good as well.

The fan is at 38%, currently -- I can manually speed it up with no issue, it definitely sounds like it's running and the temp slides down accordingly which suggests it is, in fact, doing something.

Maybe? I'll have to look into what that entails.

Ive had my build running over a month now.

Is there any reason why my CPU Fan readings would just stop showing up in HW monitor?

The temps in the case are completely fine, but the fan reading disappeared from HW Monitor last night and in the Bios the Fan Speed reads 0 RPM.

I tried disconnecting the 4 pin connector and reconnecting it, but that didnt help.

But its really odd. The CPU core temps are idling all at about 26-28 degrees C.

I'm just wondering why all the sudden the CPU Fan Speed reads 0, even though the fan is spinning and appears to be functioning like it should.

EDIT: Before disconnecting and reconnecting the fan connector, I had not opened my case since closing it after finishing building.

So unless the fan IC monitoring the speeds went poof all the sudden, I'm clueless.

Is there any reason why an AMD FX 8370 wouldn't work on my build as a replacement for my burnt out AMD FX 8320?

Me too.. I haven't used software monitoring in a long time for that reason... not that it's the software's fault. I have all my fans connected to a lamptron fan controller.
