Newegg has a refurb 7990 for $299

I can't afford the A/C bill to run that card in the summer.

Someone on OCN posted a picture of a returned TITAN put on the clearance rack at MicroCenter for $98 bucks.

Could have at least flipped it on eBay for a profit at that point.

Is defragging a drive still worth it?

Hard drive? Definitely. Windows should be doing it on a schedule automatically once a week by default.

Disable on SSDs, it won't kill it but will slow it down. It will try to reallocate dead cells on the flash modules, endlessly.

Keep Defrag on it's auto default and run SpinRite to safely remove or fix corrupted data the standard Windows Defrag tool leaves behind.

That reminds me... Are you running 840 Evos? And did you update the firmware a few months ago to fix the bug?

I used to do it once every 6 months or so, but haven't done it on the SSD or HDD in a long time.

Any of you guys have experience with the D5 pumps? I'm about to mount my pump/res and where its located I wont be able to get to the bottom to adjust the speed dial once its mounted. I have a 240x45 rad, a 360x30 rad, and Raystorm CPU block. Any suggestions what I should set it at?

Set it at 3, should be fine, good balance of low noise and adequate flow. Those rads and blocks plus tubing and fittings, maybe total about 1.5 PSI restriction. You want at least 1GPM flow rate, and the D5 on setting 3 will do 1GPM + 2.0PSI

How are you decoupling it?

No, I have regular 830s, 840s and 850 Pro.

There is the same issue with regular 840s as well, Samsung has never acknowledged an issue even exists. There is an OCN thread about users flooding Samsung with data supporting there is an issue present causing serious lost in performance. My main Steam library has been on my 840 512GB for nearly 2yrs now, the READ speeds had become so slow on certain titles it would take nearly 5-8mins to load.

The we want our 840 NON EVO SSD Fixed Thread

Anyway, to my knowledge Samsung is not even working on a fix for the regular 840s because they see no issue. However a temporary fix can be applied by simply saving the 840's data to another drive, like a NAS/Server and reformatting whenever speeds start crawling again.

Yeah, I'd read about that. Weird that Samsung is not acknowledging it. Instead of manually saving and reformatting, run DiskFresh. It just rewrites the data without the hassle.

If you remember, that red headed kid Ryan Shrout publicly spoke about the issues with 840 EVOs for nearly a month before Samsung acknowledged the issue and another month for a fix.

We probably would still be here 6 months later with our dicks in our hands.

Sorry, I ended up not checking back for a reply last night after I hit a snag that required me going to place an order on FrozenCPU. So the build is all done except for the loop; I overestimated the flexibility of this tubing and now I'm waiting on 2 45s and 2 90s to come in before I can finish. I probably only needed a single 90 but I went ahead and got some extras just in case.

This case looks so big when its empty but it didn't take long before it filled up. I've hit snag after snag...felt like I was trying to calculate an angle of approach to reenter the atmosphere a couple times trying to fit shite where I wanted it. It is great for cable management though. I'm surprised how easily it was to get them under control.

As far as decoupling I'm just gonna be using a drain on one of the bottom ports of my front rad.

Edit: Couple of progress pics. I have the pull fans missing from the front rad right now, and a few loose cables still that will be cleaned up in the final build.

Looks great so far. The first loop is always annoying. It's hard to plan for it all at once unless you already have the tubing. Even now I still have moments where I'm just like "damn I wish I had another 45." But it's a pain in the arse waiting for FrozenCPU or Sidewinder to ship, and paying $9 for shipping one tiny fitting. That's one of the main reasons I haven't messed with rigid acrylic yet. It has to be planned and cut precisely, and it's expensive if you decide not to do any bends with heat and instead go with angle fittings and adapters (they are expensive).

You can get some tight bends out of your tubing by inserting a metal rod in the tubing and dipping it in a pot of hot water, doing very gradual bends, followed quickly by a cold water bath, over and over until you get the bend you want.

What's your loop order? Looking at your pics, I think I know exactly where you're having problems. Very tight run between the pump and 240mm rad, and best achieved with two 45s I'm guessing. Also a tight turn required to get to the pump inlet from either the block or 360 rad. I'm guessing your loop order is res/pump -> 240mm rad -> 360mm rad -> CPU -> res/pump. Regardless, the setup of the res is problematic. Not your fault, as I can't think of a better place to put it unless you got a bay reservoir top for it instead (which would mean no optical drive).

I mean decoupling the pump from everything else. Can't tell if you're using rubber grommets or some other sort of rubber buffer between the res and the case. If not, I recommend it. It will cut down on noise and vibrations.
