I found the key to cage though I'm not sure if it was on a person or near the tree by the cage

I still doubt I finish this game. Every time I start having a good time, something comes up that makes me want to throw my controller against a wall.
I've probably died more times in the first three hours of playing this than any game I've ever played sans Witcher 2.

Bloodborne says hi.
(or any Souls game I've been told.)

I've only played Demon Souls (which I own). I really don't find Demon's Souls as hard as this game. Demon Souls is more of a game about patience and memorization than anything else.

I had never played the series before and I think I died about 30 times before I ever made it past the first main street

It's such a shame because this sounds like a franchise I'd love to get into. I enjoy playing games with deep storylines, and I do like western RPGs (KOTOR, Dragon Age II, Kingdoms of Amalur, Fable series). Ultimately though, I feel like this franchise since Witcher 2 was designed by developers who clearly have an appreciation for immersion and world building but who are hopelessly inept at creating a video game that that feels like anything created in the last 10 years.
Video games evolve and become more streamlined with time and it is very hard for me to go back to something as clunky and as demanding of your time and patience as this game.
I don't understand how anyone could look at this game objectively and slap a 9.8 or a 10/10 rating on it. I feel like there are people who are in love with the game world and the art direction who can look past all the flaws that get in the way of making this game an enjoyable experience and there are those who can't. I'm probably one of the ones who can't.

I would rate it something like that but I think that's because I've never played The Witcher series. It's like Dragon Age: Inquisition. It's one of my favorite games ever and it was an easy GOTY for me. But my buddies that had played Dragon Age before were kind of "meh" on it. They thought it was good but didn't understand why everyone thought it was so incredible. They don't even think it's the best in the series.
I think a lot of it has to do with new players being introduced to the series.

It has been that to me so far

I feel like I'm leveling up extremely slow.
Posted on 5/20/15 at 8:32 pm to McCaigBro69
Yeah leveling is slow at least at beginning if you are exploring a lot. If you are accessing places of power though you should have lots of skill points

Well, I tricked up I'm pretty sure. I'm doing the "Wandering in the Dark" quest and I'm already out of food for vitality and my steel sword is damaged and I think I'm only half way through. What's the best alternative? Just reload and old save that was forever ago?
Posted on 5/20/15 at 8:49 pm to McCaigBro69
What difficulty are you on? If you are on normal or easy then I would suggest meditating after fights to restore your potions and health. The sword usually lasts a while after it is damaged. My silver one nearly broke on a similar (or the same) mission.
I've started loading up on repair kits since then.

You really start leveling up quicker once you leave the White Orchard area because you are able to take on more quests.
Trying to level up by just killing things doesn't really work

I somehow survived through thanks to meditation and potions.

Swimming in this game sucks. trying to explore sunken ships is a pain in the arse. And frick all these archers. Most annoying assholes ever
Posted on 5/20/15 at 11:39 pm to drewnbrla
That stupid fricking Griffon. It took me forever to kill that thing. I roll waaaay too much and can't get my magic up.
Posted on 5/20/15 at 11:42 pm to Jcorye1
Dodge more than roll. I think the roll uses up some stamina/magic. Hit dodge like 2-3 times quickly, and you'll get behind whatever is attacking, slash slash slash, dodge dodge, and repeat.
Just killed a Werewolf, so yea, things are getting pretty serious
Also, found some Wood Demon that attacked by summoning a bunch of roots up from the ground, killed me instantly. He attacked from a god 20-30 feet away. Couldn't tell what it is and don't have the Bestiary for it yet. Avoid if possible
