I started training under piccolo, and then met Krillin who also offered to train me. Is it even worth it at that point, or did I effectively skip over him?

How do I use potions? I assigned them to buttons, but how do i use them in battle?

Krillan is worthless.
Piccolo is good because you learn special beam cannon which is really helpful because it can't be blocked. Very helpful if you are up against a stronger opponent.

Then don't do that mission. Once you get far enough, he stands over in the shop area. Just avoid it. Facing two super saiyans at once is just impossible.

Been grinding that Legendary Super Saiyan PQ about 45 times and no luck with the super saiyan ability :(

Go through the story and you'll eventually be able to buy it. Go further and you can buy ssj 2

dumb question. where do I go to start playing the story?
I just got finished meeting trunks and now im in the lobby area. literally talked to everyone but I cant do shite

Kill the fighters in this order
1) Piccolo
2) Gohan
3) Vegeta
Now do this when Goku shows up.
1) Get Goku's health down to around 20% (DO NOT DEFEAT GOKU)
2) Kill Krillin
After that, Goku will go Super Saiyan and it's fricking retarded how hard he is to beat

You have to go around in each section of TokiToki City and there will be people with question marks above their heads that you have to talk to. Once you've talked to them, go back to Trunks and the story should start.

You still don't ways get it if you beat him at super Saiyan. I did it a couple times and never got it. The drop is still random even if you do those things.
The story missions are in the original area through the gate where that tiny robot is that gives you tutorials.

Any thoughts on transformations for non-saiyan races?
I'd wanna play through as a Namekian or Frieza but I'm not gonna do first it if I never get to transform

That's one of the complaints I have. I can understand not having Namekians having a transformation or humans. But Frieza's race should have something.
The only "transformation" that I'm aware of for non-saiyan races is Kaioken.

I've noticed that the all energy capsules don't allways heal teammates. It's kind of bullshite. Tried doing the cell tournament quest and loaded up on all capsules. Of course, none of them did anything to my teammates so of course I fail when they KO
