In. First Nintendo purchase since a Gamecube. So I'll be getting about 3 systems in one with the digital store

Almost do or die for Nintendo. I think they'd have at most 2 more generations like the Wii U before they tank.

Let's hope all of the news is good and 3rd parties take a look. Without 3rd parties, it will be a tough climb.

I'm interested. I have only owned the handhelds. Never owned a 3ds because had a Vita. If I could play 3ds games digitally, I would get it day 1.

Bioware already came out and said that Andromeda won't be going to the switch.

With the machine not being powerful, Nintendo is going to AGAIN preach experience, and that translates to "the only place you can play mario and zelda" and it will be the same old.

If we run with the idea that 3rd parties won't be putting their AAA franchises like Andromeda on, I still think there are possibilities for good news:

1) Nintendo really has to put everything onto the System - That means their Mobile Catalog and their Console Catalog. This COULD work, but they have to go all in, as in no more 3DS, that means....

2) Important 3rd Party Games/Companies from 3DS land - This means Capcom, Square, Level 5 - have to continue their current support levels from the 3DS.

3) They have to figure out how to use and implement their Back Catalog well. No more single purchases, no more slow releases. Take a tip from Xbox live and give me a monthly fee system, a one or two BC games per month for free -And make sure it comes from as many systems as possible - Gameboy, Nintendo, SNES, Wii, N64, WiiU, DS, 3DS....everything.

4) Best of Mobile/Indie Gaming - They need to be getting things Firewatch, Stardew, etc. from the start. I actually don't play a lot of indie on my X1, because usually I want to play something bigger when I'm at home. If I have it on the go, I'd be far more prone to grab something like Stardew.

5) MAYBE get enough excitement for 3rd Party Developers to consider - Putting anything they put on the Vita on the Switch, to creating smaller new franchises and games that fit the console better. Gone are the days of Sega Soccer Slam (criminally underrated), the Capcom 5, Jet Force Gemini and the like. I'd love to see the creativity of the N64/Gamecube error come back. No one takes that level of a chance anymore. Maybe the development tools and ease of use can do that?

This is all pie in the sky though. We know how Nintendo looks at the market. I really hope that changes, but the only one of these that's realistic is #2 - in some weird way. No way does Nintendo come out and say the 3DS is no more. They are going to shoot themselves in the foot.

Nintendo is in tip top financial shape

You are acting like they are like Blackberry and teetering on the brim of bankruptcy

When I say tank, I don't necessarily mean financially, but in drawing ANY 3rd party support? But you can't think their cultural relevancy stays intact if we get WiiU for 3 straight generations.

They can't confuse Capcom, who supports the 3DS well, into supporting the switch, or a failing platform. The risk here is that the Switch will confuse consumers (again), Nintendo DOES actually go all in with the Switch - Mobile+Console gaming, but the gamble does not pay off for one reason or another...then Capcom pulls support for everything.

That's kind of what i mean. Financially they'd be fine, but if they lose the little support they have left, I doubt they could support a system alone. The Wii U kind of proved that, and they'd lose the cash cow of mobile gaming.

It's simple: The WiiU, outside of the SNES, probably had the single best lineup of Nintendo gaming. A on of top titles and creativity, and very very Nintendo in design. Yet the console failed. I think, or hope, that Nintendo realized as good as they are, they cannot support a console on their own.

But how long can they keep bleeding money with their failing consoles? Sure, they have bank, but at some point SOMEONE high up is going to decide it's just not worth being red just to have a presence in the console market and decide it's best to go strictly handheld and/or become a publisher.

Nintendo has never lost money on a console. The only item they have ever lost money on was the Virtual Boy.

Where do you guys get this misinformation from

I didn't use the word bankruptcy on purpose. I just think they'll lose cultural cache, excitement, fans, etc. Again, financially they'd be fine but if they don't get this thing together, they'll lose things way more important than their bank account.

All signs point to the switch being the merger of console and handheld

Smash Bros

I don't think we'll get a new Smash Bros this generation, just Wii U's version ported with probably 5 or 6 characters added. It's really just good enough for now, and this is heavily rumored at this point. Probably add Inklings, Shovel Knight, and Shantae among others.

I'd be 100% ok with this for portable smash that can then turn into 4 player with some controllers.
