It's not that Nintendo is getting smarter. They're just in the middle of releasing their once in a generation token franchises. After Zelda is released, Nintendo will all but abandon the platform in terms of first party exclusives.
Huh? Yeah ok.

i'm sorry you don't understand it. let me play this out for you. i have a 64, but i don't keep it hooked up. if i can just turn on my wii u and play it there it would be better because i don't have to put any effort into playing. jesus christ this fricking place

I didn't mean to make you mad. You sounded like you were dying to play GoldenEye.

That was directed at this board more than you. I'm sorry. I actually have wanted to start a big retro thread for a while but I don't know how it will be received. It's gotta be more than just a brag thread (this is what I have) and a reminiscing thread (I remember that!). A real thread for collectors. Idk if there's much interest in it on this board

there's probably some. i lost a lot of my shite in katrina and gustav
Posted on 4/2/15 at 1:11 pm to genro
Stout probably has the biggest collection and hes not a collector.
Posted on 4/2/15 at 1:14 pm to DoUrden
Actually there's a guy on the SECRant OT who owns dozens of arcade cabinets, and over 25 consoles. He has pics. It's better than Stout's. I think he owns a pawn shop though

Microsoft and Sony would drop their consoles in a heartbeat
Sony just dropped it's PC/laptop line, cut it's mobile phone line almost completely out, and is talking about dropping TV development.
They are one step away from becoming "Sony Playstation" rather than "Sony". It's the only division that's profitable. I highly doubt they would "drop their consoles in a heartbeat" when really since the PSOne came out they have been on top of the VG industry (with a minor setback that was early ps3 days, but they have gained back 10-fold with the ps4),
They pretty much single handily knocked Sega out the console market with the PS2. With nintendo and it's focus on mobile all of a sudden, the next few years in the industry are going to be interesting.

They do things the way they want,
Nintendo and gaming are better for that.
Nintendo and gaming are better for that.

Exactly. PlayStation is the best division for Sony at this point. Microsoft Is the only one that doesn't need their console.
Posted on 4/2/15 at 1:52 pm to Mr Gardoki
Well it used to be one company - strictly a VG company - developed all of it - the console and the vast majority of must-have titles and the peripherals. Their entire effort was put into the device and if any major part failed, it all failed. Sony and Microsoft don't have to make games, Ubisoft doesn't have to make a console. Atari, Sega, Hudson Soft all died off. Nintendo is the last one left.

Kind of. Nintendo is actually a toy company that didn't go all in on video games until it took off. 3rd party used to be a big part of their systems though. I would also wager the Sony very much needs PlayStation.
Posted on 4/2/15 at 1:59 pm to Mr Gardoki
All true. Also Sony and Microsoft DID rely pretty heavily on first party for their first consoles. Just not nearly as much anymore, while Nintendo went in the opposite direction

You can argue Sony still does. They have a lot of studios at work. Microsoft has been building theirs up too, especially since Phil Spencer took over.

Since the n64, nintendo has pretty much re-released the same games once a console generation on GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.
Nintendo's innovation is with their handheld titles.
Posted on 4/2/15 at 2:30 pm to BulldogXero
It actually raises the question of why people are so excited to have these games released on virtual console but get so mad at remasters.
Posted on 4/2/15 at 2:31 pm to Mr Gardoki
The sheer number of third party games for the Sony and Microsoft consoles is just insane though, not counting current gen. That's been the biggest selling point for me, as a Nintendo fanboy who has owned the first 3 PS's and will own a PS4 soon. I don't have any attachment to Sony whatsoever, but it's just like every great game comes out on these systems no matter who makes them. But maybe I'm weird, and it would take a bunch of surveys and complicated financial shite to figure out if I'm right, so w/e
