Go after mostly pipeline guys unless you are leading, and start the season with only 12 to 15 guys on your board. This will give you a great chance of landing at least 10 of these guys. Start replacing these guys as they commit with decent players that haven't received a lot of interest, but fill your needs. Always look at the prospects actual skills, don't just look at stars. I usually search prospects that have me in the top 10 by position, look at their skills, and then pick a guy I shouldn't have too much problem getting that will fit my scheme. You should be able to get about five more commitments before offseason. In offseason go after some more studs that just got added, and you should be able to land another 5 or so. Works for me...good luck.
Damn, i didn't know they added some in the offseason. I'm at the SEC championship and i've signed 20 guys so far. 4-5 star, 9-4 star, and 6-3 star

i think lag points have to do with how you trail someone with interest

Does anyone know the rhyme and reason of getting 2X points on recruits from time to time? Is it random like coach's choice?

let me give some quick advice I suggest that you only get people who have you as top 3 actually what i did was went to interest and sorted by interest they should help you quicken the process.
I did create one 5 star prospect real good QB i usually create a guy who matches my needs just and make him 5 star but not more then one, but still so far i got 3 5 stars 3 4 stars and could have up to 11 3 stars, isn't the best year of recruiting but its a good year and i have a felling more i win, im on track to win a championship i will get better players coming in

as far as creating a prospect make him good in the aspects of the position you want him and make him a Punter or Kicker. recruit him then change his position after he commits.

I start with 10 recruites they are almost all 5 star maybe 2 4stars I spend a hour on each, if I sign a recruit in week one I go after another recruit that I did not go after a first. By the time the offseason rolls around I have about 16 signed, all 5 an 4 star players an I go after the players that are made in the offseason. I always get in the top 3 in classes.
And a side note it is very easy if u paly with LSU which I do on a regular dynasty. I play with ULL in a online dynasty an it is hard as f*ck to recruit like that I have to sometimes take what I can get.

I don't understand why everyone is having so much trouble recruiting. I just finished my first season recruiting and I finished #1.

One hint: When first setting up your board, pay attention to the negative numbers (-100) of the target recruit. Even though you might be 6th on their board, you might only be -200 away from 1st, which is completely recoverable. You might end up landing that 5* guy you originally thought you couldnt get because you weren't in his top 3.
Another hint: pay attention to how far ahead you are to the #2 school and use a little math. If you're 400 points ahead of the next school for one recruit, you can be sure that you'll stay his #1 and only spend 30 minutes on him in that week. If you can do the simple math, you can figure out just how many minutes you need to spend so the #2 guy is out of reach of overtaking you.
You can save a lot of time by paying attention to these numbers; time that can be saved to go towards a guy you're fighting for.
ETA: I'll add a couple more tips for recruiting. I consistently get 6-8 5* recruits and get the #1 class in the country every season.
