Well based on the comments and after quickly watching that video it sure does not seem as difficult as I thought it would be.
Blue also said I could possibly find a cheaper/better monitor than the one he linked. What specs should I look for a solid monitor? 1920x1080? LED?

Get your monitor off of craigslist for $30.
Use the $100time saved to get an i5 2500k.
Make sure it is compatible with your motherboard.
Now you are set.

Building your own system isn't that difficult, but the thread does say budget pc; and no one here can deny that you can buy a system a lot cheaper than you can build your own if you don't already have a monitor and a copy of windows. that's where the expense comes in. $300 for a monitor, $300 or so for windows........
but yeah, building one isn't that difficult.

Don't mean to look like so ignorant, but how can you make sure that your processor is compatible with your motherboard?
And Hog, I thought a copy of windows would cost about $100. Where do you get your $300 from?

It Does cost $100, and a $300 monitor is very high grade. I got a 1920x1080 21.5" AOC monitor for $145 and it is great
ETA: i also bought an asus cm6730 from best buy, and then upgraded the video card when i got some more cash later. So that is also an option for you. Its a very fast computer

I got windows ultimate 64-bit for free through LSU! I think many colleges have something like this
To the OP, look into the asus vh236h. I bought two of them for $110 each and love them

Thanks for all the suggestions
I'll probably think about all my options over the next couple of weeks. My birthday is coming up so I might just wait to see how much $ people love me and decide on a build then
