Not you, necessarily. I just knew that the BOtW crowd in general was going to come strong.

50 hours in Witcher3 and got bored. Have not touched it since.

Couldn't put down BOTW. Put 250+ hours in it.

Ah the reply was to me. My bad.

And it's fair. It's a great blend of mechanics, but I'd still prefer OoT and maybe even LttP over it in terms of this discussion.

I see some ppl say this, are you playing on easy?

I played on Death March and once I figured out the quick jump and roll timing I barely got touched.

Love the game though, it is def a top 5 for me of all time.

Thanks for the reply Freauxzen. I get exactly what you are saying. I just wanted to make sure I was on the same page.

All this being said, I am excited to play BOTW next week. I figured if I ever put it down or get bored then I would move on to Witcher 3.

Fact.

No RPG has ever had a town as fully fleshed out as Novigrad.

Not even close. Sure there was scripted behavior but for the first time in RPG history, it felt like a real town instead of one big pile of scripted NPCs.

It is easily one of the top RPGs I've played to date and I'm old as dirt.

It has been some time since I owned a nintendo system so I can't compare the games but Witcher 3 was quite impressive with great mechanics and fantastic graphics. Interesting story.

Hell, the DLC was worth every penny and I despise DLC.

As a total package it has to be in my top 5 ever.

As Tom Nuttall would say TWDMSCBC!

I can't speak for witcher. I played it for a few hours but wasn't my type of game.

BOTW, the devil is in the details. things down to rocks, wells, whatever are carefully placed over this gigantic map all to distract you and encourage exploration. it's kind of like a "create your own adventure" which typically I prefer "here's your adventure" which i imagine what witcher is, but like i said i only played it for a few hours.

W3 is an all time great game. Its the most polished RPG ever made. Every damn fetch mission even feels unique.

Understand it can be boring for people who don't like collecting items or reading dialogue, its a great game within a thought out universe.

i believe witcher 3 is probably one of those landmark games...it just wasn't for me at the time i was playing it.

the way people talk about it, how long they've been talking about it and still playing it...i have zero doubts its one of those great games.

i just think comparing BOTW and witcher is apple/oranges. i usually prefer witcher type games especially 3rd person perspective. it just didn't click with me. probably had more to do with when i played it than anything else.

all of that sounds appealing to me. i think it was just open world overload at the time and that summer or spring...whenever it was i just did not have the time to put into it.

i could sink so many hours into Zelda (170 hours plus) because i can undock and play traveling, in bed while wife sleeps or watches some shite i don't want, etc.

it also released the weekend of my birthday so i got like 3 straight days to play it.

Metacritic:

OoT - 99%
BoTW- 97%
Witcheer 3 - 92%

Like I said...great game and maybe the greatest to some but in the eyes of the world....no.

W3 would have ppl who just aren't into that style of game. It is polarizing.

OoT is a great game but anyone who picks it up loves it. Surprised BoTW is that high, even though it is in my Top 3 Zelda games. Thought most ppl would hate it but really only us Nintendo fanboys have played BoTW to this point. So yeah, it will have good ratings.

I'm in the same boat. I recognize it is a great game, but I just couldn't get into it. I played for 8-10 hours but never really got sucked in.

Can totally understand it with W3. The lengthy dialogue, left of travel time and vast world can push some ppl away.

Struggled to make it through a playthrough.

I've played Skyrim 3 times. Doesn't compare.

Story line is not great.
Fighting is gimicky.
Magic is weird.

Good but not the best game ever.

I for sure have BoTW behind OoT, LTTP and link between worlds. I just don't ever see anything passing up OoT as the goat for the reason you said....anybody who picks it up loves it and it will always be that way...a child could play that 30 years from now and get an amazing experience.

It was just timing. None of that is a turnoff to me. I didn't play the other 2 so the story didn't suck me in either

I don't know what it was for me, really. I'm primarily a sports gamer but I love the Souls series and loved Skyrim so I figured Witcher 3 would be a slam dunk.

All those games you named have a totally different play style and feel.

But I would think a Skyrim fan would like Witcher. Skyrim is boring to me, and its not a well made game.
