the control is a minor complaint for an overall very good game

I would agree with this, I'm just saying this game is not perfect. The swimming controls are really bad though.

Does swimming ever become relevant?

There's a few caves you have to swim through plus all the sunken treasure. Aiming the crossbow underwater kinda sucks too.

Yeah I don't like the swimming and horse controls. Unless a location is absurdly far I run across the map and check out little treasure locations and bandit camps and such. Thank god for fast travel on this game.

Here's a protip I wish I knew earlier.

A lot of the underwater hidden treasures can be collected without going underwater. You will get a prompt to loot them on the surface

It's a fun map to travel across despite roach sucking

I'm on PS4 and haven't come across most of those problems. He's right about the horse and swimming controls, though. They suck. And load times are a bit slow when you die.

I downloaded the game from the Playstation store, don't have an actual physical copy. I don't know if that makes a difference with load times.

Not on my ssd.

Swimming sucks but your rarely have to swim. Although if you hate seeing ?s then you will be doing a lot of swimming.

Horseback and swimming suck.

I'm down to 3 question marks on the last DLC so my time with the witcher is nearing an end.

I has sad.

Pro Tips
Save Often - nothing worse than winning a big fight then accidentally falling off a step drop and dying.

When in a boat cruising around. The crossbow will autoaim making it easy to kill annoying sirens. Just don't take too long shooting them. Nothing worse than being over encumbered and in the middle of the water in skellige when your boat sinks.

I didn't save as often as I should have and had about a 10 minute swim back to shore.

I wish I could turn the ? Off. I do them as I come across them but I don't seek them out and they just clutter the map. I haven't played in weeks though honestly .

I died once running down a set of stairs before they somewhat fixed the easy-fall-to-your-death problem

Instead of sprinting, Geralt started a barrel roll mid-air, never touched the rest of the stairs and landed at the bottom. DED. I was pissed and laughing at the same time. 3 minutes of load time coming right up

In skellige, there is a lighthouse quest that takes you through a busted bridge. The distance between gaps on the broken bridge is totally jumpable, but on my original playthrough and now NG+ everytime I try to sprint jump the gap Geralt just does a lovely dive into the stones below and ded. I guess the game thinks there is water down there

That only works on underwater treasure tied to buoys or treasure really close to shore. Otherwise, you're diving.

Still, it does save some time...especially in Skellige's 83,000 "?" ocean markers.

It's strangely slow for me too. SSD on PC, and still the load times after death are about 15 seconds vs. near-instant any other time.

Agree on the swimming controls for sure, but the horse isn't so bad. Using the mouse plus directional keys works well.

Wahhh!

Back in the day my C-64 cassette would take 22 minutes to load after death.
