Performance mode looks good, but yeah the 30fps is brutal on resolution mode.

Makes you wonder if they can somehow concoct a Spider-Man Miles Morales esque hybrid performance/ray-tracing mode, bc the 30 FPS is unplayable IMO.

Performance mode literally looks the exact same as resolution mode. frick 30fps. Game plays much much better in Performance mode.

Perhaps it's the 60+ hours I spent in AC Valhalla as my first PS5 game that has colored my perception of 30 vs 60 FPS, but I can't quite put my finger on it. 30 FPS feels really bad on PS5 for some reason, in a way that I never noticed before on PS3 or PS4.
Switching to resolution mode in this game literally feels like the game is running in slow motion
That having been said, I really wish I would have replayed Zero Dawn. Yes there is an recap in the intro, but this game just kind of throws you into the world with zero context as to what is going on, and for the first 5 or 6 hours, I was like "Where is this place, who is this person, what did I do in the last game again?"

it's just because you've had a taste of the forbidden fruit and you can never go back. 30 was the normal for so long

Maybe, but I've played plenty of games at 60 FPS on PC

Right but the norm for consoles for the longest time, PS3 and PS4 (before the pro), was 30fps. Even only a handful of games did 60fps on the PS4 Pro and even then it often dropped back down to 30-40fps.
You're making a comparison on consoles, PC was never mentioned in your original statement.

I'm sure they'll fix or change it - I'm shocked they even released it as a "Resolution Mode" since the graphics don't even seem better...
ETA: I am playing on a OLED, so maybe there's some sort of motion blur shenanigans going on.

maybe its my brain playing tricks on me but i think i do notice some finer detail in resolution mode. ive been playing in that mode but think im going to go to performance. i havent been tainted with the "forbidden fruit" of 60fps as long as some of you guys so 30 fps hasnt been soul crushing

Finally putting more time in to this game. I'm about 31% complete after about 30 hours or so. Mostly just been doing side missions and exploring. Might have to advance the main story soon.
I ran in to a few high level Apex machines, and they are kicking my arse even though I'm level 26. Some of these fights are tough as hell.

I ran into a thunderjaw and was way too low of a level and had gear not leveled up enough for it. I took it down but it took like 30 mins. So all the stuff I knocked off of it disappeared so I only got to loot the carcass. I scouted it and made sure the items I knocked off would give loot but it just took too long

The key for the thunderjaws are to shoot off their disc shooters and use them against it.

i've been playing 60 FPS (and higher) for years on PC and still don't notice when playing something at 30 FPS.

I think I'm around 60% complete and around 65 hours in. I'm doing most of the side quests too. I've gotten the main quest to want me to go pretty far west so I'm sure I'll be unlocking a lot of new things soon. I'm loving it so far.

Nice. I put 20 hours in when it first came out and then dropped it for a few weeks. I'm definitely playing some tonight.
I'm finally getting to get some decent purple weapons and outfits, and it just shreds the lower level machines, almost to a point where I can't get the components I want off in time.

That surprises me. I notice the drop from 60 to 45 far more than I notice the drop from, say, 90 to 60. Anything below about 50 FPS gets noticeably choppy to me.

Agreed. Plat'd it last week so I started learning to play Machine Strike and trying different outfit/skill tree combos. A lot of replayability after the story, which was really good imo.
