two part question here-

first, what's a good way (either game or a demo) for a 5 and 8 year old to acclimate themselves to the PS5 system and more specifically the controller?

second, please recommend some games good for that age and possibly something adults would enjoy too.

thanks in advance all!

I can't speak to PS5.

I can speak to Nintendo Switch. Tons of games; Mario Kart, Mario 3D World, Yoshi, Luigi's Mansion 3, TMNT SHredders Revenge, Animal Crossing...the list goes on and on.

Switch is the place to get them into gaming.

Me and my son played the Lego Starwars games together on PS3 when he was 7 or 8 to get him started. We both had a blast.

No idea why nobody has suggested this. There's a built in game for exactly this purpose.

Unravel Two is an excellent multiplayer game, some very mild violence and peril but otherwise a great co-op experience for all ages. Controls are reasonably intricate, but the game is designed such that players of different skill levels can succeed.

Get your kids set up in td012069’s little private group. He gives out free games to kids in exchange for friendship

The little robot game that is pre installed on the system is actually designed for that purpose. Plus it's pretty fun.

Astrobot is the answer. It is free and my son completely beat the game at 3 years old. He still loves it to this day.

As for the OP is it their first console? If so modern cutting edge stuff like ps5 is NOT where someone like a 5 year old should be learning things about video games. It is almost all way beyond their cognitive ability to process it let alone build future foundation. IMO start with ps1

Not sure what kind of 5 year olds you've been diddling in your free time but my son picked up the PS5 controller at 4.

Agree with previous posters on Unravel Two & Minecraft Dungeons

I would recommend Astrobot and Sonic Mania.

I've also done the higher tiers of PS+ and my 6 year old really loves playing LocoRoco.

We've tried some other games, but they were honestly a bit too hard for them.

I know this is absolutely BREAKING mind blowing news to some apparently but almost every single game made for ps5 and to an extent ps4 but not quite at this level will be too hard for most people that havent begun at least some consistent proper abstract outlook on reality, and the ability to apply proper memory recall to inform adequate controller management.

What would make me seem not so? Are you not used to reading barely 8th grade length formatting responses? Sorry to bother you with 3 minutes of me getting across what I needed. Or is your assessment my points weren’t correct? Mostly you’re just being snide and stupid I know but it looks bad for you.

Science heavily tells us otherwise.
To be specific many studies both in a controlled sense and tracking from young to older ages. But sure bro whatever you say lol

Just let them play. It won't take them long

Are you okay?

to answer your question, in a thread where a guy is asking a simple question to help his kids, this "adjunct professor at a major 4 year state university" has managed to respond with homophobia, wage-shaming, insulting 5 year old kids, etc. The answer is no...no he is not okay.
