Final Fantasy VII, if you play nonstop from start to finish, and experience everything, would still take you about 3 weeks (that's 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Some of you forget how long it took just to get out of Midgard...and that's basically the prologue!

I can only imagine how large a remake would be.

The original game was 3 discs IIRC on PS1.

They are trying to simulate the disc switching experience

Pretty sure my playtime was only a little over 100 hours and I had raised a gold chocobo to get KotR and everything.

Yep, and that's adding in source grinding as well.

It's a long game, but let's not get crazy.

Hopefully these things happen:

You can continue your progress through the first episode.

It's no more than 2 parts. Anything more than that would seem a bit much.

Edit: apparently was only 3 discs, thought there was 4.

The multiple discs argument really doesn't hold up. Storage space was at a premium back then.

Not going by that. Would seem better pacing IMO.

You would need multi discs on anything than a ps4 anyways. Unless you had to do a download.

There's no way it would take 3 weeks of 24 hour a day playing to beat 7. If you get the gold chocobo, I bet you're still only looking at 40 hours.

It takes quite a bit of grinding to get good enough to beat ruby weapon. I'd say at least 80 hours of source, level and materia grinding to get that gud. If just beating the main game and getting KOTR, ya you could do it less than 40.

Take the beginning through the crazy motorcycle chase, update it to PS4 and add a shitload of cutscenes...and that's episode 1 right there.

That could work if they added some cut scenes based off the spin offs to further explain the story up to that point. I hope they don't tho.

So does this mean people are just going to hold themselves over by grinding in Midgar around the end of episode one and be totally OP for episode 2 when it comes out?

That's how you got Aerith's limit break in the original

I remember grinding on those mechs near Midgar when you first leave the city (the ones you learn Matra Magic from) for hours and hours and hours.

I always posted up in the forest near Junon.

Also the first place you can get Yuffie.

It's very disappointing to see that people are writing it off without seeing the cost/content included. They're going to add a lot more things to this that FF7 had, and it's going to require a lot more time.

If done well, there's no problem with this method of distribution. Hell, one of the primary developers (CyberConnect) also released two episodic JRPG series that were done very well (.hack and .hack//GU).

I can't remember for the life of me, but how many discs was Final Fantasy VII for the PS1? Wasn't it like 4?
