This is not necessarily a deal breaker, but I am extremely disinterested in this game now.

Nope.

I hate the Hollywood crap with splitting movies to bilk the public. Won't even look at a game doing that nonsense.

If you guys just stopped and realized the effort that has to go in to remaking THAT game, you'd get over this. Making it in chunks is probably less daunting and you can get to play something and not have to wait for the entire thing to be completed.

I agree it may be a lot

BUT

This game will still be 60 bucks instead of 30, for example

Telltale games and Life is Strange made me realize I hate getting to play something and having to wait until the next part releases.

That honestly doesn't surprise me any. I'd rather it be released in episodes than wait till 2020 or later.

I'll just buy the whole series during a steam sale.

honestly I never thought this game would ever see the light of day, so I DGAF how it comes out, I am all over this.

This is my all-time favorite game and the amount of effort and work to get a psOne designed game like this and the way it was designed on nextgen is almost impossible, and that's why they never wanted to do it. The architecture of the psOne allowed for that specific world design and it is going to be tough to bring it up to date.

I cannot wait.

At least with this FFVII, you have a reason to just walk around level up until the next part releases

Definitely one of my favorite games on PS1 alongside Resident Evil.

The "unique experiences" is what worries me.

Will one be turned based, one action, one shooter? Will you lose all your leveling progress each game and start fresh? It would seem so, otherwise how could they sell each as a standalone. I want the game to be whole.

I highly doubt they are going to lose progress between episodes.

quote:

“From the beginning, we thought a Final Fantasy VII remake would be bigger than a single release,” the game’s original director Yoshinori Kitase told Dengeki Online.

“If you did get it into a single release, there would be things we’d have to put into a shortened compilation,” Tetsuya Nomura, FFVII’s character designer, added. “Since we thought there would be stuff we would probably have to pare down and supplemental things we probably couldn’t add, we decided to divide it up, concluding that we have to do a remake that’s fully packed with content.”

Kitase added that with the Sector 1 and Sector 8 areas shown in the most recent trailer are quite dense. “If we took everything that’s in the original game and remade it at that quality, we couldn’t get it all on a single release,” said Kitase.

The Final Fantasy VII director explained that since they won’t be dividing up the game, the substance of the original won’t be cut, and Square Enix can then take that substance and do a full-on remake.

Goes with what I said. The scale is far too big for them to rush this out as one release. This is better news than people think.

It also seems to imply that the game is so massive in scale (which is what I've been saying, the psOne allowed for huge areas in that original quality with a lot of detail) that to get it right it needs to be released this way. I think this is originally why they never wanted to do it, it couldnt fit as one release, but fan outcry was so huge that they are doing it against their judgment, and the compromise was episodes.

That makes me very excited bc it means they are going to nail it. By the looks of that trailer, they are.

Then how can they sell them as stand alone games?
Will they just give levels to people who didn't buy the first?
Will you be required to buy the first to play the next in the series? I can't think of a game that does this.

They never said they would be "standalone games"

telltale does this (and square just did it with Life is Strange most recently)

The game will just be broken down into episodes. If you start in...say the 3rd episode, they will start you with certain abilities and levels most likely. And that is only if they allow you to jump in the middle, which you are implying but I havent seen anywhere.

The team creating Final Fantasy 7 Remake has said that it’s going to be a “multi-part series” because otherwise it would be forced to cut some content.

In an interview with Dengeki Online, translated by Gematsu, director Tetsuya Nomura said: “If we dedicated our time to a single release, parts of it would become summarized.

“We’d have to cut some parts, and additional parts would come in few, so rather than remake the game as a full volume, we decided to do multiple parts.”

After showing a stunning trailer for FF7 Remake over the weekend, it was left to a Square Enix press release to fill in details about the release.

Splitting the game into multiple parts hasn’t gone down well with some fans.

Wouldn't the Mass Effect story be considered a "multi-part series"? Everyone is automatically comparing it to the Telltale episodic games, but if they just broke the entire FFVII story into a trilogy of games with each being 20-40 hours long, I don't think it will be as bad as most are thinking. That would still fall into the "episodic" or "multi part" description. I am still more concerned about what they will do to the combat.

It might not be bad, but Square needs to communicate

each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the colume of content equal to a full-sized game.

So 3-4 $60 games probably over the next 5-6 years? le sigh...

Still happy it's getting done but this could put a damper on things.

This in and of itself is not a complete turnoff, but I will wait to hear pricing for each episode, the number of episodes, the length of each episode, and how much time I. Between.
