Square is probably terrified of doing a remake, knowing that if they frick it up it will probably be the end of the company.

Most likely.

They are still making money off the NES/SNES classics via iOS, Google Play, etc.

I'd imagine eventually games like FF7, 8, and 9 will be available on tablets and phones as well once storage technology advances. They are already currently on PSN, Wii Store, etc.

I have fond memories of the game, but I think it's hyped up a little too much for my tastes.

That being said, I think most people would rather see a ff7 re make rather than a dozen sequels to xiii

A game of that size is likely costly to make if redone entirely with cutting edge graphics, but it seems like they could print money with it.

Can't tell you how many times I've played it since back in 1997. I agree, it's still my favorite FF and every time I play through, even if I start one tomorrow, I enjoy it.

they just tried to remake 7 over and over again, particularly with 12, and 13 and X-2.

wat. 12, 13, and X-2 are nothing like FF7. The only vague correlation you could make is Lighning's character design to Cloud's. That's about it.

I would love to see a remake with updated, state of the art graphics but identical gameplay and storyline. Chocobo racing

Just popping in to say anybody who says FF9 was terrible, I hate you.

FF9 best game of all time.

Also we are a bit off pace for ff7 remake threads for 2014.

I've said this many times: Just update the game with new graphics. Change nothing. Have DLC that people can buy such as the Aeris resurrection. Profit.

I never played 1-6. 7 was my first RPG. I still love it and 8 the most out of all RPGs.

I have been on a classic RPG marathon the last 8 months or so. Miss the good days of RPGs

XenoGears - Finished
Legend of Dragoon - Stopped about 10 hours in.
FF7 - Finished
FF9 - Finished
Link to the Past - Finished
Ocarina of Time - at the spirit temple

Fixing to either start the FFIV ios/ds remake or FF8 tonight. Any votes?

I don't know about All time, but it's the one time Post 7 that they got close to IV and VI. 9 is wonderful.

I really think that 6 is much better than 7 in every regard except visuals and perhaps a sense of "epic".

And 7 is great. But 6 is a GOAT candidate.

FF7 is fantastic. It made a huge impact, being such a huge leap graphically. The story was epic, the music remains fantastic. I love that game, easily my favorite.

6 is the best of the series. I mean (spoiler, but not really the damn game has been out 20 years but someone will probably get pissy) Kefka actually did in 6 what Sephiroth tried to do in 7. The story in 6 is just more intriguing to me, it is also paced better.

Agree.

And I just love the cast of 6... 7 is....kind of blah. Cloud was an OK protagonist. Vincent was awesome. Barret was ok, Tifa was ok. Red...eh cool story.

But in 6? Everyone had such a clean and well thought out story arc. Cyan's family, Shadow's past. Setzer's lost woman. Celes....one of the most interesting characters they've ever written. Edgar and Sabin. Even Gau had some great moments.

I think 7 had a clever story that was fast paced and intriguing. I think 6 had the better characters, although it's a push between Sephiroth and Kefka for better villain. 7's strength was in the relationship between Cloud and Sephiroth, whereas 6 found strength in a large cast of characters, all of them fully realized and unique.

Well I obviously was just stating my opinion as fact. Not meant to be taken serious.

This is how I rank the FF games in tiers, so I sort of agree with you. (no order in the tiers)

All-time great
IV
VI
IX

Great
VII
VIII
X

Good
V
XII

Passable
I
II
III
XIII
XII-2

Agreed. Kefka > Sep. Sep was kind of emo bitch (yes, this is largely an artifact of that era) while Kefka was the perfect mix of insane and dangerous.

And like you said, his "holy shite he actually did it" moment trumps Sep killing the person he killed.

The only FFVII characters I prefer to their FFVI counterparts are Cid (best character in 7 by a mile) and the motherfrickin Turks

Would be my exact ranking except I would say I is a bit higher for being the first alone.

Agree. I give it to Kefka (GOAT villain), but at the time Sephiroth was just...yeah a product of his time.

Yeah Cid was always cool. I don't think he got the story he deserved in 7. (And Cid is fun as hell in IV).

Pump the brakes there, 1 is one of the better ones. Especially considering it was on the Nintendo. You spoony bard!
