Just to warn you it takes like 5 hours before they let you loose.

that might be generous... that game hand held you a long time - great / amazing game, but that was one thing is did a lot of - "hand holding"

I just want to say that I've played more of The Wonderful 101 and it's awesome. Way better than I expected it to be.

It's like a marriage of Pikmin (which I've actually never been big on) and Devil May Cry with Viewtiful Joe's character designs thrown in.

If anyone is interested in it's combat system, which is surprisingly deep, this video does a good job of explaining it.

Is it that enjoyable? I understand demos aren't everything, but I played through the demo and hated it. It didn't control very well and felt very shallow and boring.

Does it open up a lot more?

Edit: Also, new areas in the FF14 expansion. I somehow missed the original video. LINK

I haven't played the demo but I wouldn't describe it as shallow at all.

HOWEVER, the game doesn't explain it's systems very well. For instance there are 2 abilities, a block and a dodge, that should have been included by default but you have to go into the game's "Wonder-mart" and buy them as upgrades. They suggest you go there to buy new moves but I'd argue the game (so far) is nearly impossible without those 2 abilities and the game doesn't tell you that.

I also should note that everything I read about the game before playing it said to NOT use the stylus / gamepad screen for drawing the different attacks. Instead, use the right analog stick and treat the attacks almost like fighting game inputs. That's probably helped my enjoyment quite a bit. As you play the game you get new characters who have their own morph attacks - a gun for shooting airborne enemies, a whip for fighting foes covered in spikes, and a hammer for breaking through the more heavily shielded monsters. And there's just something awesome about turning half your wonder-minions into a sword to launch an enemy into the air while the rest of your squad transforms into a gun to shoot them from below.

It's an an unusual game for sure and I know it's probably not for everyone but it's one of those rare games that has me excited and thinking about it when I'm not playing it. Definitely in my top 10 of games this generation so far.

If you are curious to see how deep the combat can be, you can watch these 2 videos detailing it. This guy did more videos beyond these 2 but those focus on how to get platinum rank on everything along with more advanced aerial combos.

#1 The Drawing System (video I linked to above)
#2 The Combat System

Demos are tricky. The Bravely Default demo was very shallow but I just gave it faith that it would be deeper in game.

Very true. There have been several demo's I've played that made me think the game wouldn't be great. I've actually heard that The Wonderful 101 demo isn't a great way to get a taste for the game.

Also, the game definitely has flaws outside of its lack of explanation. I'll admit that. There are plenty of QTE but they're usually so funny and over the top that I don't mind them. Also they provide a nice break from the combat, which can be fairly intense, but I know QTE's for some are a definite negative.

The camera can pose a problem at times, especially since you'll occasionally get hit by enemies off screen. I've learned to never stop moving.

There are also some brief sections of the game that have you playing on the touch screen while other things are happening on the TV. These little split-screen events are hit or miss but there was one in particular that was really cool where you're having to pilot a space ship and fight bad guys on the bottom screen while the stuff your space ship is supposed to be dodging is on the top screen.

And the game is challenging and I'm playing on normal. The higher difficulties are locked until you finish the game and I can see why.
