More excited for 5 than I was for 4 or Reach.

Story looks fantastic. The beta was shite loads of fun. The new game mode they announced at E3 is apparently a lot of fun.

I don't get the hate for 343. Bungie are the ones who started Halo on a path many people disliked. I liked 4 way more than Reach.

The MCC was a clusterfrick but I don't blame 343 too much. The game was made by about 12 different companies. It was rushed out by MS. They've done a terrific job of working to fix it.

I actually think most Halos are pretty bland, and even playing them all, I always preferred PC FPSs to the Halo games. However, 5 looks alright, if not a little too much like Destiny.

Its because they dumbed down multiplayer to make everyone equal.

Ever since Halo:Reach both Bungie and 343 have tried to copy CoD a bit in that respect. 5 looks no better.

They added a bloom to the sniper and BR, and added idiotic weapons like the DMR. All for the purpose of trying to make the players a bit more equal. In H2 and H3, you had massive differences in talent and skill between the top ranked guys, mid tiers, and the grunts. Its still there, but it is no longer as pronounced. Stuff like the bloom evens it out a bit.

HALO 2 was the most addicting multiplayer I have ever played. HALO 3 was fun and I was better at it(Lvl 50x6, sponsored), but 2 was literally addicting. I probably logged over 1,500 hours on H2. If not more. Roughly the same on H3.

I miss those days, I remember the hype surrounding 3. It was crazy. Now 5 is coming to town with a whimper.

Only reason I am even interested is because I want to see what they do with the Chief. I was a bit annoyed with 4, because they didn't honor the books regarding Onyx. I am hoping they find a way to make the story line in 5 really pull together. My only idea for where they are headed, is that he is trying to turn Cortana human with the machine The Librarian told him about that can convert humans to machines, and visa-versa. Or trying to use it to heal her Rampancy.

edit: Unless I havent paid any attention and they already released the story line. Which is certainly probable.

I probably wouldn't have gotten anyways but after the MCC clusterfrick (idc whose fault it was) I won't be purchasing it unless something changes drastically

Also, part of the reason is that I REALLY don't like halo 4s campaign and the multiplayer wasn't much better

The bottom line is the master chief story should've ended after 3 and if they wanted to keep making games to make money then they should've created another story about a different Spartan or whatever, not milk the same character dry

This thread only having 1.5 pages of responses before dying is indicative of the slow death Halo is undergoing. It's swiftly going from the greatest game franchise ever developed, to a laughing stock.

Yeah, I've experienced a personal loss of want for Halo.

I wasn't especially fond of the direction in which the story went. The new faction introduced was frankly very forgettable. The epic just didn't feel the same.

343 didn't half-arse it, they may have tried too hard (to expand the story universe). Then again, with all the characters that died in 2 & 3, the story had too evolve somehow, 343 just executed it in way that failed to resonate with me.

Halo 2 was one of the most fun, if not the most fun game I've ever played. Campaign and Multiplayer were both just fantastic.

Very disappointed with all the unnecessary add ons they've put into it. Just doesn't feel like Halo anymore

Halo taught me 2 things:

-an 8 year old kid can dominate me
-verbal insults

the greatest game franchise ever developed

I say that mainly based on 2 things:

A) Multiplayer Gameplay

B) Multiplayer Matchmaking System.

They completely revolutionized the gaming industry in both of those respects. What's crazy is the entire system and gameplay setup was basically the brainchild of one guy.

The algorithm they built to handle matchmaking was unlike anything ever seen before. With MCC coming out a decade later, you would think it could work better. We saw how that worked out. H2 worked from day one flawlessly. They revolutionized the industry. Nothing else was even close. CoD4 didn't come out till 2007, and it was the only franchise that could even slightly compete from a multi player standpoint in that decade.

I have truly enjoyed many games. Fallout 3/NV, Oblivion, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Rogue Squadron, Cod 4(Zee best cuz Ghillie), Mass Effect, Skyrim, GoW, WoW, Fable 123, the list goes on and on.....and on and on.....and on and on....you get the idea.

I have played hundreds, maybe thousands of games.

Nothing captured me like Halo 2. If you took every game I just listed, and added up my total playing time. It would be less than H2 by itself. Well, it might be tied.

I got goosebumps the other day when I played the campaign on MCC for the first time. It literally felt like coming home. My experience is not unique. I know dozens of guys, just among my circle of friends, who feel the same way. I have friends who I have never met in person, but I almost invited to my wedding in 2008, who I met on H2. I even remember the map I met the first guy, Ivory Tower in the summer of 2005.

H2 wasn't just a game, it was truly special. It was my Star Wars, E.T., and Jurrasic Park.

The guys who don't understand that either:

Never played it, and are basing their opinion off the crappy games that followed H3.

Or

They sucked so completely hard they couldn't make it to lvl 15.

It was the greatest game on the planet, and now it's on life support.

I wouldn't say that at all. There was a ton of talk about Halo at E3 and it is still going to sell extremely well in the fall

The matchmaking system that Bungie developed for Halo was a huge game changer in the video game industry. It became the backbone of Xbox Live.

It is only selling because of H2 and H3. Every game they release, the complaints grow more numerous and loud. I wouldn't be surprised if this one kills the franchise.

Just read through the link you posted. The multiplayer sounds atrocious. Instead of forcing players to try to be good, the game is completely dumbed down. Now your character will actually callout teammate kills/deaths and the location of the other team for you? Seriously? Plus all of the new movement tools they put in there sound like CoD:AW Halo edition.

Halo was great because it was simple. It's funny, they are trying to make it where everyone can individualize their character. Yet trying to take individual skill out of the picture as much as possible. It is like they have completely forgotten what made the first three such huge successes. They need to get back to basics. At least they cut out being able to choose your starting weapon.

Also, no split screen on campaign?

Yes it did, there were a lot of people at the time who thought Xbox live would have taken 5-7 years longer to really get rolling without H2.

H2 was the model for everything that came after it, and it was basically designed by one man in a very short period of time.

Nope.

I read the exacting description of gameplay from your link, and I've seen video of multiplayer matches.

Until they get rid of firing "bloom" in weapons like the sniper and br, and do away with Sprint and other similar "extra" features. I will not believe anything other than they are attempting to equalize the playing field. There was no precedent to suddenly add anything like either of those things. For another example look back at what I said about the new in game callout system. It's literally having the game do the work.

Instead of using an extra to enhance a game. For example, I find Advanced Warfare's exo movement system extremely intuitive, and I am enjoying it more than any CoD since 4. They are using extras simply for the sake of extras. Outside of wanting a Sprint option on the bigger maps, I never heard one decent player mention wanting anything beyond the basic movement in the first 3 games.

My whole point is that while it may sell well, it has a rapidly declining fan base. I don't think you can disagree with that. It will continue to decline until they can reproduce the old magic. Something I think can only come from following the first three games. If my wife didn't absolutely loathe video games, the only thing that would make me want to buy an Xbone is the MCC, or if they had made multiplayer in H5 like H2/3's. Well, mayyyybe Fallout 4. I haz my pc for that though.

Bungie ahould have done what the innernets thoughts they were going to do. Not made Reach, and turned Masterchief into Marathon. Instead they made H:Wars(why?) and Reach, then sold their baby when both games flopped. So they could go make Destiny, another game that didn't reach the hype.

They focused more on MP than they did SP. I still wanted the quantity and quality of Halo.

I played it last week with one of the teens in my youth group. Everything was fine and dandy. They worked like mad to fix all of the bugs.
