For those of you using Cox internet for gaming, what modem are you using? The one I have from Cox sucks and while I'm pretty good with computers, I won't even pretend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to modems.

I end up having to restart mine every 3 to 4 days.

Is it an older modem? How long have you had it?

No, I just got it in March. The reviews of it on Amazon are terrible.

I purchased a Netgear router/modem from them. I have 3 gaming systems hooked up and numerous wi-fi devices running in a 2800 square foot house with no problems.

If you haven`t gone to the 3.0, that is the first step.
I have the White Motorola/ Arris SB6141 about $90 at walmart.

Best one for cox IMO is the Motorolla SB6141 or SB6121. 6141 is better if you have the highest tier (100-150mbps) if not go for the 6121 it's a little cheaper. Always go for the separate modem and router those 2 in 1 gateways are all awful

Either one of the Cisco ones in here is the one that I have. I have no problems.

OP might want to call Cox and let them know the modem is not reliable and you want a replacement. They should take care of you. And don't take any bullshite about being charged for a service call, it's not your fault their crap isn't working right.

I've always owned my own modem and router

I have the SB6141 too

I reset it once a week roughly. Something wrong in my neighborhood, I've always had inconsistent service and they can't figure it out.

Router/modem combo. I also have a second router that I've diverted some of my devices through. I use the cox SSIDs for stuff that needs to run really fast. My xbox is on the higher gHz SSID and I always have open connection

I'm glad someone started this thread. I just switched back to Cox 3 weeks ago and I have the modem/router all in one made by Ubee. Although the I'm getting 120 mbps, I can't join lobbies on gta 5. When I do get to play online, it's only about 4 others on there with me.

What's the best modem for gaming?

No, I'm wired for my desktop. Another question. What kind of latency are you guys getting? Mine tends to jump around every few minutes.

A DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

Sounds like you need to forward some ports.
